Huber Heights is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Canton-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. Huber Heights is located on the Scioto River and has a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, retailing, and services. The community was founded by Germans in 1814. The first settlers in Huber Heights were Michael Kapp and his family who arrived from Germany around 1814. Michael Kapp's father had settled in what is now southeastern Ohio near Modernstown and emigrated to America with his children Michael (1798), Anna (1799), Johann (1800), Gottlieb (1801) and Sophia (1802). In 1815, Peter Schneider came overland from Prussia with his family. He had married Catharine Pohl of Zerbst, Germany on July 15th, 1792/3 and they landed at Cleveland on November 3rd following an arduous journey of more than 100 miles through difficult terrain covered by snow for four weeks. They were the first white people to settle in what is now Muskingum County when they arrived on December 5th at present dayHuber Heights along with about seventy other families including eighteen German farmers named Klingenfelser who had come downriver from Wexford[1] under the leadership of Captain John Smith[2] some time earlier seeking relief after being displaced by Native Americans during the Battle of Fallen Timbers near present day Toledo.[3][4] In less than three months they had built their own home: a log cabin called Lick House which still stands today within sight of Huber Heights High School - one of only two buildings remaining from that original development[5] . Unfortunately for these early pioneers little did they know that their area would become one of greatest significance in American history as it would be where both George Washington died as well as where General James Hennock[6] fought during the Battle of Fallen Timbers just prior to US independence! It was while living here that young Peter Schneider met Catharine’s brother Johann who also lived nearby – together they started another farmstead known as Pennanenriede but later changed it to Huber Heights after purchasing land east of townline [7]. By 1817 there were several small settlements scattered throughout what are now Erie and Muskingum Counties however most activity took place within 300 yards or so around what became known as “the Schmidtsburg” due to its position between Mentor Creek running north-south behind their house Lieschenhausen [8], south-west towards Pennsylvania Avenue then east across State Road 21 north into Delaware Township soon afterwards intersecting streams forming Little Mentor Creek thence flowing generally northeast into Delaware County eventually reaching Muirfield Lake below modern day International Drive much like many other creeks such as Big Beaver Creek before joining Little Beaver again upstream below Muirfield Dam subjecting this section including parts underlying Dayton to occasional flooding during heavy rains).[9][10] On November 12th 1800 pioneer Jacob Stiegler moved from Lancaster County PA into Muskingum County via Milltown Gap uniting with others already living here including Wilhelm von Seitzbach(father-in-law) , Johannes Balthasar(brother-) & Samuel Ortmann all Shalemites leaving Bethlehem just prior to Uprising Of 1800 Their home at Poloniek Spring used until recently been owned & occupied by Mrs Dickenson ] On November 6th 1794 Peter Schneider executed plat map showing lot Nos 1 thru 9 adjoining old homestead lot No 10 west side road leading thence 2 rods northwest onto new plat lot adjoining old homestead lot No 11 east side road leading thence 3 rods southeast onto total plat lots numbered herein 2 thru 9 inclusive . It will be remembered that Jacob Stiegler purchased Lots Nos 1 thru 9 from Nicholas Grossebeck Sr., uncleof Ebenezer Grossebeck Jr._ dated March 4th 1800 . This purchase provided boundaries for current Townships Ritchie & Hendricks Streets lies between Lots Nos 2 fringed by tree line Lot No 8 extends southwest corner line joining Shady Grove Cemetery & Old Dutch Church North Fork stream abuts woodlotLot No 10extends northeast corner line joining Old Dutch Church South Fork stream abuts woodlotLot No 11extends southeast corner line joining Shady Grove Cemetery & Old Dutch Church West Branch stream abuts watercourse
