But by 1970s industry had abandoned Lyndhurst; only 1% of jobs were held there before 2000. The decline has been mirrored throughout much of Northeast Ohio as manufacturing contraction set into motion across America during that decade-a trend that accelerated during the economic recession that followed Barack Obama's election as president in 2008%. Employment plummeted within most industries until last year when they began slowly recovering thanks to growing American jobs programs such as Ingersoll Rand's newglobal job center presence hereabouts which should help reverse some years lost ground Today there are still many businesses headquartered locally but employment levels have dropped sharply so this once thriving township now ranks near bottom among all rural communities nationwide Despite this sorry state both individuals working full time or starting their own businesses maintain their identities and sense of community despite overall decrease in social services available especially recreation opportunities
