Many people from these new backgrounds formed the nucleus of what would become the Macedonian-American community in Ohio. After years of hard work and perseverance, many businesses have been founded in Macedonia - such as an ice cream parlor (1911), bakery (1892), grocery store (1927), post office (1937), medical clinic (1974) and more! Today’s economy is based on tourism with its own summer campground and adventure park; manufacturing: Macedonian pottery from 1902-1972; agricultural products: maize production began in 1860; cattle ranching began in 1937 Yugoslavian immigrants arrived during World War II to provide labor for munitions factories; they are now known as “Macedonian Americans” because their descendents continue to reside here
