The community was founded in 1875 by John Mayfield and his wife Anna as a small farming settlement on the east side of the River Muskingum. By 1900, Mayfield Heights had reached its current size and importance as a center for industry and commerce. In 1924, John Mayfield donated land to build a public high school that would serve all of Mayfield Heights. The new high school was named after John Mayfield Jr., one of the original settlers in the community. In 1955, John Fenton became Mayor of Mayfield Heights and designated it as an " inner-city" city with limited resources. This designation allowed for more development within the community and helped to create a more diverse population. In 1978, Alfred Kinsey established his research lab in nearby Berea which led to greater understanding of sexual behavior among men. In 1830, they bought land east of downtown Cleveland from Chief Wahoo Wilson for $10 per acre. Their home at 412 Euclid Avenue remains one of Cleveland’s most well-known landmarks today. The post office at Mayfield Heights was established in 1827 and remained active until 1959; it received its current name from John Mayfield Sr., who donated it to the town that year. The first store opened in 1870; within decades there were several grocery stores, two banks (the First National Bank & Trust Company serving as branch headquarters), a sawmill, three hotels (the Brown Palace Hotel becoming known as “The White House” due to its colorful facade), twelve schools (grades Pre-K through 12th grade), an ice cream plant/cream truck business ( PACKED!, later abandoned), two churches (Methodist Episcopal Church North Park followed by Baptist Temple) and numerous homes throughout the years including many still standing today including Mrs. John Biddle’s log cabin which she built in 1909 adjacent to her son's farmstead where he raised chickens after leaving home at age 14 to join his father’s business empire). Neighboring communities also shared their cultures and businesses during this time: Chagrin Falls developed into a shopping center with anchors such as Sears & Roebuck, JCPenney & JCPenney Bros., General Tire & Rubber Co., Macy's Department Store and more because of transportation connections made via Lake Erie shipping routes running through both villages; Paintersville developed into an all-purpose industrial center producing clothes for local retailers such as Sears Roebuck department stores as well as military uniforms for Ulysses S Grant during his presidency; Beechwood developed into another crossroads with services provided by churches (ethically concerned about meat production) before disappearing altogether when those services became available closer to downtown Cleveland; while much has changed over time – including demographics – aspects like commerce are constants which can be seen throughout these communities scattered around northeast Ohio In recent decades growth has been limited due Texas annexation of Lucas County but development plans are ongoing due to increased resident interest prompted by increasing job opportunities nearby according to Mayor David Condon

The town was laid out in 1814 by Josiah Mayfield and named for him. It became a village in 1837 and an incorporated township in 1854. The name changed to Mayfield Heights in 1915. The first settler in Mayfield Heights was John Biddle, who arrived around 1798. He built a log cabin on the old site of today's library building and named it "Biddle's Grove." In 1800, Ebenezer Beattie settled here as well, naming his farm "Beattie's Grove." In 1814, Josiah Mayfield founded the Village of Mayfield Heights with land he had bought from David Sibley. The first post office was established at this location on October 15, 1814 (no date given). Mayfield Heights became the county seat of Cuyahoga County on July 1, 1870 under territorial government when that territory was split into three parts: Cleveland proper, Akron and Mayfields Township (later called Cleveland-Warren-Cleveland). On January 1, 1907 both villages merged into one town when they were consolidated into Cuyahoga County. From its inception until 1921 when it became part of the city of Cleveland Metropolitan Area;MayFIELD HIGHTS WAS A COMMUNITY THAT WENT TO THE MATTER OF SCHOOLS AND ELECTIONS! ALSO MAYFIELD HIGHTS OWNERSHIP OF THE CLERK'S STORE WAS NOT TRANSFERRED FROM CLIFFORD DAVIES WHEN HIS FAMILY MOVED HERE IN 1922! ALL THESE EVENTS SHOW THAT EVEN TODAY MAYFIELD HEIGHTS IS AN INTERESTING LOCALITY WITH ITS OWN HISTORY!

Mayfield Heights was founded in 1812 by James and Sarah Mayfield. The area that is now Mayfield Heights was first part of the town of Westlake. In 1824, the Township of Mayfield was created from parts of the Township of Westlake and the Townships of New Lebanon and North Bend. On April 15, 1846, a post office called "Mayfield Heights" was established in the township by James Tappan. On July 1, 1865, the post office moved to its present location and became known as "Mayfield Heights."
