In 1915 a sawmill opened; in 1922 an auto parts store opened; and in 1929 an ice cream parlor opened. The last business closed in 1984. A high school (now called La Salle High School) was built in 1922 on land donated by Jock McAllister; it replaced an earlier high school which had been burned down during World War I. The first students graduated from La Salle High School on May 16, 1928%. Old-fashioned education was provided until 1965 when all students attended county-supported schools which are now known as Wayne State University's Maurer Campus located adjacent to La Salle High School on West Main Streetessa

The community was founded in 1827 and named after Colonel John Pataskala of the 1811 Ohio Infantry Regiment. It was platted in 1828 and named for Judge George Washington Carver, who donated land to the town. The first post office opened in 1830 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1959. The current Post Office Building was built in 1957. Pataskala is located at (39.519661, -83.814520). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which is land and is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,622 people, 581 households, and 476 families residing within the CDP. The population density was 553.3 people per square mile (220.2/km²). There were 615 housing units at an average density of 283.4/sq mi (120.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95% White; 2% African American; 0% Native American; 1% Asian; 0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races.
