Perrysburg is a small town in Harrison County, Ohio, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Perrysburg was David Halsey in 1796. The town site was surveyed and laid out by John Prentice in 1811. It incorporated as a village on April 14, 1824, from portions of Upper Arlington Township. A post office called Perrysburg had been established in 1809, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on December 31, 1888. As one of the townships within Harrison County created when it was organized on November 3, 1800, Perrysburg acquired its present name from General John Cook's victorious army at Fallen Timbers (now Vandalia) on July 4, 1794. In that battle near Richland Township east of Dayton he commanded an brigade under Major General Anthony Wayne while Lieutenant Colonel George Rogers led the Fourth Regiment of Infantry infantry served under Major General John Herndon. On his return to America after the war he located and founded what would become Perrysburg on land grant given him by President Thomas Jefferson to settle "a white man who will provide us with a market for our goods." The original plan called for 300 homes but this number never came to be because many residents either left or were unable to build due to financial difficulties brought about by frontier warfare and natural disasters like malaria epidemics which struck the area frequently during those years also affecting other areas west of Cincinnati including Perrysburg where Indians fought some pitched battles against national forces raiding their villages during this time period also making life difficult for settlers living close to Indian Territory just across the state line then being explored for settlement purposes as well as people already living there who started building before Congress gave final approval for westward expansion on February 14th ,1812 when Missouri became a US state following its admission into Confederation less than two weeks earlier
