Portsmouth, Ohio is home to the first self-defense weapons factory in the United States. The Portsmouth Arsenal was founded in 1827 and produced firearms such as pistols, rifles, shotguns, and cannons. It was also responsible for developing the first breechloading rifle in the world. In 1903, the arsenal was closed down and its assets were sold off to other businesses. However, it reopened in 1978 as an armory and museum dedicated to self-defense weapons history. As a result of this thinking – which primarily concerned keeping law enforcement officials safe – Congress passed what is now known as "The National Firearms Act" which made it illegal to possess any firearm that could be used to commit a felony! This act effectively stopped all manufacturing and sales of handgun within the United States! However despite this incredibly strict policy change being put into place – gun ownership continued slowly growing throughout much of 1907 until finally reaching an all-time high around 1915 when over fifty percent of Americans held firearms! At this point though things started to unravel; crime rates started decreasing but overall production capacity for handguns only grew marginally due largely because manufacturers simply couldn't find anyone who wanted them anymore! The NRA however was not about To Keep Guns Out Of Crime But About Protecting Citizens From Criminals Who Wanted To Use Them And So They lobbied hard against any new regulation aimed at curtailing gun ownership !
