Ravenna, Ohio is a town located in the U.S. state of Ohio and has been home to residents since 1795. The first permanent settler in what is now Ravenna was John Nolen, who founded the town on the Scioto River after moving from Dutchtown, Indiana. In 1812, General James Kieft established a military post at Ravenna for the defense of Stark County against Indian attacks. The post was abandoned in 1814 and Ravenna became a part of Morrow County. In 1911, Ravenna voters passed an ordinance authorizing the erection of a public library within its limits. Construction began on the building in 1912 and it opened its doors to the public in 1914. The library is one of only four municipal libraries statewide with a collection that exceeds 1 million items. It also features special collections such as world literature, rare books, manuscripts and artwork dating back to before European settlement in North America. The town's industries have included manufacturing since its founding; however, mostRavenna-related businesses ceased operations by the early 1990s due to reductions in global trade and competition from larger towns across Ohio Valley cities such as Dayton and Cincinnati

Ravenna is a small village in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH metropolitan area. Ravenna is located on the edge of Lake Erie and on the southern fringe of Akron The first people to live in what is now Ravenna were probably hunters and gatherers who traveled along the Great Lakes region. By 1000 BC there are references to villages being established near present day Ravenna. In 350 BC a group of Germans settled in what is now Ravenna after crossing over from Europe through Canada. They named their settlement Nuremberg because they wanted it to be an example for other Germans living in America that they should not give up their culture and way of life for a new place called America (Nuremberg had been founded by German soldiers during World War I). In 1509 George Washington journeyed from Trenton, New Jersey to visit his nephew Nicholas deKlein at DeKlein's home on the west bank of the Ohio River where he met General John Forbes (the future military Governor of Pennsylvania). Washington noted that most Americans lived close to lakes Erie and Ontario which made for good hunting grounds as well as agriculture due to easy access to water resources. He recommended that Congress provide land grants for American settlers adjacent to those natural resources so that AMERICA could become "the land of our dreams" After some debate Congress passed an act granting 3 million acres (10 square miles) eastward along both sides of the Great Lakes watershed – known as The Northwest Territory – specifically towards lands running north-south between Detroit and Cincinnati/Stroudsburg, PA; this tract became known as “Ravenna Township” or simply “Ravenna” by 1836 when it was organized into civil township under Act 25 US 17 c2 statehood laws.). At its incorporatetion date December 1st 1836 all citizens were required by law to swear an affidavit setting forth their residence within five miles surrounding each town limit with one exception: those living east or northwest OF THE COUNTY LINE AND INCLUDING ALL CITY LIMITS UPON WHICH THEY ARE LOCATED BEING LIABLE FOR SENSE OF DANGER IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS ONLY IF THEY WERE ENGAGED IN ACTIVITY THAT RESULTED IN LIFE OR LOSS OF LIFE TO ANY PERSON AS A CONSEQUENCE OF AN UNLAWFUL ACT OR CYCLE OF CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC ORDER……….and such oaths were valid until May 6th 1860 when order 12 US 160 c2 repealed section 8 thereof………………….. ravennasher defiance led directly to earlyCivil War conflict

Ravenna was a small town in southeast Ohio until the early 1800s when it became a part of Cincinnati. It was founded in 1811 and named for the Ravenna castle in Italy, which served as the town's first jail and courthouse. The population of Ravenna peaked at around 3,000 in the late 1800s before slowly declining over the next few decades. The village ceased to exist as a result of its annexation by Cincinnati in 1911. Today, Ravenna is an unincorporated community located within the city limits of Cincinnati. It is known for its annual Festival of Roses, which takes place on Saturday near downtown. The village also contains several hotels and restaurants, as well as a museum that features historical items from Ravenna and from adjacent communities such as Richland and Xenia.
Ravenna, Ohio was founded in 1814 by a group of settlers from the town of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The town was named for Ravenna, Italy where the first European settlers arrived in 1795. The name references their location on the border of present-day Latrobe and Westmoreland counties. The original settler families were: Bemis, Brown, Cameron, Dolan, Ford, Godfrey, Haney, Hillman, Howard and Kapp. They built log cabins and started farming corn and beans. In 1822 they erected a gristmill that became an important part of local food production until it was destroyed by fire in 1903. In 1828 a post office was established at Ravenna with John Prentice as its first Postmaster. By 1830 there were 11 houses in the community and 2 businesses including a store and blacksmith shop. In 1870 there were 27 homes in the community with 5 businesses including a grocery store and 1 post office. In 1902 the Pittsburgh & Erie Railroad (P&E) built a line between Latrobe Junction (now Meadville) PA and Cleveland OH/Westmoreland County IL called the "Latrobe Line." This new line connected Ravenna with Pittsburgh PA via Westmoreland County IL making it easier to get goods to market. The village continued to grow as railroad passengers shifted from travelling by wagon or buggy to traveling by train which made life much more comfortable for residents.
