Ravenna, Ohio is a small town located in the southern portion of Lucas County, Ohio. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. Ravenna was founded in 1786 by Nicholas Ravennas and is named after the Roman goddess of Wisdom. The town was originally part of Westmoreland County, but it became part of Lucas County in 1801. The first settler in Ravenna was Nicholas Ravennas and his family. The Ravennas were Italian immigrants who arrived in America between 1786 and 1792. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Muskingum River where they later erected a frame house. Mr. Ravennas became an accountant and President of his local board of education before he died in 1802 at the age of 72 years old. His wife Anna also settled here and raised their children here until her death in 1827 at the age of 69 years old. Their son George then moved to Cincinnati with his wife Catharine to start anew life as a family farmer and rancher called “The Grapes” near what is now known as Fairmount Park eastside on 1/2 mile lot No 615-617 W Main Street (now 5th Avenue Southeast). In 1828, Mr. Ravensburys sold their farm to John Fenton for $500 which made him one of the earliest settlers within present dayRavenna Township., Mrs Fenton being another early settler with her husband Daniel Evans coming from Illinois Territory.. After several more families moved into this township during that early period there were only twenty-six residents living therein when it was organized on July 8th., 1830 by order of Commissioners James Hargrave & Samuel Morse.. With its growth over time many homes were constructed including three brick buildings – One upon Which It Is Now Enjoyed As A Non-Profit Museum By The Corporation Of Ravenna Township – Fireplaces In All These Homes Were Built By Frederick Kapp & William Kirby And Made For A Purpose Only To Keep Them Warm When Living In These Cuts; Both Men Are hereby Recognized As Local Historians Of This Townmark.. During World War II thousands OF men served our nation with distinction thru service either through unit or branch Upon Return From Duty Many Bells Became Ringing Here remembrances Of Past Glories Will Remain Longer Then household items! On September 11th., 1945 Our Village Was Shelled Starving Body Butchered Thereon With Full Gospel Preacher At Its Head… today’s memories lived long ago!
