Salem is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River south of Cleveland and east of Dayton. The population was 11,471 at the 2010 census. It became a community in 1837 from part of Medina Township. Salem was founded by General David Wilkinson as an agricultural village on the Scioto River northeast of Cleveland. In 1837, it was organized as a town by order of the Ohio General Assembly based on its location and growth. The city grew rapidly due to its central location, good transportation connections, and access to resources such as coal, lumber, and agriculture. In 1925, Salem merged with neighboring Bedford to form the largest city in Summit County by population (at that time).

The Weaver gun was a recoil-operated firearm that used compressed air to shoot pellets at a distance of up to 100 yards. The gun was very inaccurate, but it was sure to start fires in any range! Over time, other manufacturers produced their own versions of the Weaver Gun. Some of these guns were more accurate, while others were less so. In 1912, Adolphus Greely patented his own version of the Weaver Gun that used compressed air instead of gasoline to fire pellets at a distance of up to 50 yards. This gun was much more accurate than its predecessors and could be fired from nearly any position! However, during World War I, gas-powered rifles became available for use by soldiers on both sides of the conflict. This change in weapon technology led to some interesting developments with airguns. For example, during World War I, engineers discovered that they could create an effective airborne bomb using small self-propelled rockets called “rocket pistols”! These weapons were incredibly inaccurate and did not work well out in the open sky, but they provided an interesting demonstration of how airguns could be used in warfare! After World War I ended, many people began looking for ways to improve upon the Weaver Gun and develop their own versions thereof. One such manufacturer was Browning Arms Company (BA), which developed what is known as the “Browning Turkey Gun” rifle in 1928. This rifle featured a powerful piston engine that allowed it to shoot pellets at distances up to 350 yards! Unfortunately, this weapon did not succeed commercially and no live ammunition ever circulated within its reach!
In 1892, the first airguns were made in Hungary. Hungarian inventor Ferenc Kállai developed the airgun and demonstrated it to the military at a military fair.

Salem was settled by the Muskingum River in 1788. The city was founded on the site of a trading post called "The Village" and became a center for trade and industry. Salem grew rapidly during the American Revolution, and in 1792 it became the capital of Ohio. In 1801, Ohio passed a law prohibiting slavery, which made Salem an abolitionist stronghold. The city continued to grow during the 19th century, becoming one of the largest cities in America. In 1897, Salem designated itself as the home town of Ulysses S. Grant, who had grown up in nearby Cincinnati.
