This event is also celebrated as the founding date of the City of Toledo. Toledo experienced some majorups during its time as an American colony: In 1813, Ohio General Anthony Wayne moved his army into northern Indiana to stop Tecumseh from attacking Cincinnati; after being repulsed at gunpoint, he burned down much of downtown Toledo before retreating back to Fort Harrison on July 4th. In 1819, American forces under Major General Winfield Scott defeated Major General Andrew Jackson at Battle Creek Bridge near Detroit while besieging Mobile Bayou; subsequently, Jackson decided not to cross that bridge when offered passage by boat instead opting for an inland march across Lake Orion which ended up resulting in his decision to return home following negotiations at Greenville on October 20th. Later that year Commodore James Kenedy sailed into Lake Erie aboard HMS Buffalo about 100 miles (160 km) north of Detroit for trade purposes only; upon sighting land several days later he ordered his ships turned around due to bad weather conditions and continued sailing towards shore until he finally anchored offcache Point Rouge on November 7th astern USS Constitution).
