The Whitehall Shooting Target Holder Company was founded in 1917 by George H. Whitehall and his son, Harold W. Whitehall. The company was originally located in the town of Whitehall, Ohio, but it relocated to its present location in the city of Cincinnati in 1951. Whitehall is a small town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-Worthington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Whitehall were two brothers, Isaac and Jacob Whitehill, who arrived on horseback from Pennsylvania in 1799. They built a log cabin on the current site of Whitehall Township in 1802. TheWhitehill family continued to live there until their death in 1851. In 1819, Elijah Dayton bought land near Whitehall and built a sawmill and gristmill on the Scioto River. He also opened an inn called The Hermitage which served as a stopping point for stagecoaches traveling between Cincinnati and Cleveland. In 1830, he sold his mills to John Ransom for $1 million. John Ransom operated Columbus's first dry goods store from 1834 to 1840 when he moved to Youngstown to become political editor of the "Youngstown Gazette." In 1840 he became treasurer of Columbiana County and served until his death in 1865. It was during this time that Columbus developed into one of America's leading manufacturing towns with businesses such as John Day & Sons cigars (founded by Genesee Jones), Colt Firearms Company firearms (founded by Samuel Colt), Wabash Railroad locomotives (built by George Stephenson) and many others - all thanks to advances made at J&J Manufacturing Company located just downriver from J&J's original plant on High Street in downtown Columbus where skilled workers manufactured items like saddles, harnesses andmining tools before moving them upriver for final assembly at Wabash Railway workshops located just north of Downtown Streetsville which had been founded by four Dutchmen named Hendrik Andries van der Sluis along with their families some time previous - making it one of the largest industrial areas east of the Allegheny Mountains during its formative years! In 1870s local metalworker James Hanna started production at his foundry at 419 Main Street which later became known as Hanna-Herrman Metalworking Corporation Ltd., producing castings such as nickel plated brass sheet music players (manufactured by Harry Herrmann), radios (produced starting around 1940) among other items; today it still produces products like aluminum cans! After completing his apprenticeship under master craftsman Abram Howland in 1902 James Hanna went onto open his own metalworking shop upstairs from Hanna-Herrmann Metalworking Corporation Ltd., becoming one of America's most successful manufacturers/dealers/distributors Of Cast iron Products! Over time James Hanna would expand operations into new plants including one adjacent to I-71 exit 133 about 6 miles west of Whiteshall center; eventually becoming well known throughout North America for both HIS products AND His highly skilled labor force numbering over 120 people!!! Today James Hanna & Son continues operations out West fulltime thru several daughter companies incorporated since then including HanaUSA Incorporated - formed circa 2004 based out OF Cincinnati after James' death having grown quite prosperous over those many years!! Became world renowned manufacturer/distributor Of Aluminum Cans after winning ULI’s “ Distinguished Manufacturer Award” back in 2006!) Whitehall is a town in North Central Ohio, United States. The population was 2,059 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. The first white people to live in Whitehall were the Bird family who settled on a farm called "Meadow Branch." In 1820, Colonel James B. Mead built a cabin on the current site of Whitehall and named it after his home at Meadow Branch in Virginia. The town began as a small village formed from parts of Butler, Trumbull and Lucas counties in 1824 when several hundred farmers purchased land east of the Cuyahoga River for $5 per acre. By 1830, Whitehall had grown to include 4 miles (6 km) of streets and 100 homes. In 1830, James Kapp established Kapp's grocery store on Main Street and soon became one of Ohio's leading Merchants in Agriculture and Business Men had set up businesses around town such as various wagonmakers, butchers, blacksmiths and tailors; millers raised corn, wheat and other grains; manufacturing enterprises included soapstone quarrying (the first stone quarry in North America), tanning hides and leather production; an Osmond’s Opera House was built between 1840-1841 housing two theaters complete with props still extant today; a gristmill used to produce flour for local baking shops until 1870; three churches were built: First Presbyterian Church (1830), Methodist Episcopal Church (1831), Baptist Churches (1832). From 1850-1960 there was also an industrial complex including two foundries - Drexel & Lambert Foundry(1851-1927) which manufactured cannons for Union troops during the American Civil War while also producing locomotives for Westinghouse Electric Company(1860-1920) notable examples being No1 air compressor(1912); No2 water pump(1925). It wasn't until 1907 that Whitehall's post office opened its doors after being closed ten years earlier by mail carrier John Muhlenberg due to fire hazard caused by candles used to send telegrams through the building! The community experienced another period of growth starting with World War I when many businesses closed because war production interrupted normal activities; however within six months most all business reopened although some were damaged or destroyed during fighting including both foundries which continued operations but produced no munitions thereafter while others closed entirely due to lack of demand following hostilities ended During Prohibition many residents made their livelihoods selling liquor from their homes though few actually drank alcohol so it isn't known if this contributed significantly to community decline or if prohibition simply killed off all opportunities for economic development thereby leaving residents largely unaffected Postwar years saw increasing suburbanization as larger families moved into towns seeking more amenities than available outside those communities while small villages gradually lost population as younger adults left for jobs or new suburbs were developed nearby
