They traveled through what is now Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Michigan before reaching Indiana's Northwest Territory where they established themselves among the Shawnee tribes north of Lake Superior. Although many people relocated due to religious or political reasons – such as joining up with Patriot forces during The Revolutionary War – Wilkinson's group continued its trading operations until about 1800 when it took a break for lack of new land tod
