In 1827, John Cushing founded Cushing Township in what is now Delaware County, Pennsylvania; this township became part of Wooster Township when it was formed from parts of Delaware and Lucas counties in 1881. The name "Wooster" originated with George Washington's birthplace near Alexandria, Virginia (now Arlington), where his family lived for some time before moving to Georgetown Court House about 1792-1794. In 1865, Alfred Atherton Merrybourne bought 4 acres (1 km2) east of present day Main Street from Ebenezer Wistar and donated it to build a Methodist Episcopal Church which would serve as an educational center for young men living southward along Ironton Road towards Youngstown while their families continued to live northward on Merrybourne's property next door until 1886 when they sold that parcel too to create Greenfield Village where they currently live today. This churchyard still exists next door to First Presbyterian Church which served as our high school until 1984 when it merged with Greenfield Village High School becoming Wooster Senior High School; however due to its location within sight but not reachable by students or staff from neighboring schools because it sits atop a hill overlooking both villages (thus impeding access), it remains known officially as Woorer Senior High School even though all facilities inside have since been renamed after other nearby institutions such as Ironton Road Elementary School and Columbiana University Hospital! Until quite recently there were no paved roads running through what is now Wooster so most residents walked or bicycled their way around until automobiles finally arrived here following World War II when Interstate 90 was built traveling directly through our town bypassing much furthersouthwesterly populated communities like Youngstown while providing convenient accessto larger towns downriver such as Cleveland!
