In Worthington, Ohio, there have been gun tragedies in the past. In 2008, a gunman killed four people and injured nine others at a movie theater. That year, also in Worthington, a man shot and killed his father and two sisters before shooting himself in the head. And in 2013, a woman killed three people and wounded six others at an outdoor concert in Worthington.
Worthington is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Canton–Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Worthington is located on the Scioto River east of Cleveland and west of Akron. The first settler in what is now Worthington was Jonas Woolridge in 1795. He and his family purchased 640 acres of land from the Shawnee Indians for $25 per acre. The Woolridge homestead stood until 1814 when it burned down due to an accidental fire that also destroyed many other homes in the area at that time. In 1819, John Brougham settled in what became Worthington after traveling through Ohio on his way to Michigan Territory. He purchased 5 square miles (12 km²) of land from George Worthy for $600 per acre which he named "Brougham's Township". In 1830, Brougham sold this township to John Sibley for $2 apiece with 500 additional acres (20 km²). This made up Sibley's original donation to Worthington Township which had been forfeited by Daniel Drake during the Indian Removal Act of 1830. One early resident who owned property within present-day Worthington was Levi Coffin who arrived there around 1800 as an indentured servant with General Anthony Wayne's army during the War of 1812. Coffin built a cabin near where he currently lives on State Road 144 just south of Route 231 close to where 11th Street meets Third Avenue today. He died shortly after his arrival and not long after his cabin was discovered by local pioneer Elijah Price who platted much of what is now Worthington village site including Price's Chapel and lands northward along 11th Street extending into present day Euclid Heights northeast towards Bloomfield Hills proper were most likely developmentally derived from Coffin’s land holdings prior thereto although less clearly so as some elements may have actually originated from earlier occupants or purchases/assignments thereof rather than initial platting by Price or later developers pursuant to official designation or zoning ordinance then extant at time etc., albeit without legal title thereto? We are inclined to think not but cannot conclusively say since such evidentiary material remains undeveloped presently?

Worthington was founded in 1792 by John Worthington, a whitesmith. The town was named for the River Cowichan which flows through it. It became a part of Ohio in 1801 and in 1815 it became the capital of the state. In 1896, Worthington was renamed Dayton.
Worthington was born on October 10, 1792, in the town of West Fairfield, Ohio. He was a Revolutionary War veteran and member of the State House of Representatives from 1821 to 1830. From 1830 to 1840 he served as mayor of West Fairfield. In 1840 he moved to Cincinnati and became a merchant there. He died in 1868 at the age of 82 years.
