The town grew rapidly and by 1892, there were over one hundred residents living in Bixby. The town prospered due to its location and natural resources, such as timber and waterfalls. However, during World War I, munitions production at nearby Tulsa caused an increase in traffic on the Arkansas River which led to increased flooding that damaged many homes and businesses in Bixby. In 1919, Mayor John W. Davis asked for help from other towns in Oklahoma to help with flood relief efforts and $5,000 was raised from local citizens to fund the first flash flood watch tower system in Oklahoma. This system allowed residents to report any sudden floods or overflows so that responders could be prepared should they occur. Since then, flash floods have been a regular occurrence in the area and have often resulted in damage to homes and businesses. Despite this risk, many people continue to live near rivers because they believe it is a way to avoid being affected by natural disasters. Additionally, bullet history has also helped make Bixby an attractive place to live because of its proximity to major metropolitan areas like Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Bixby was founded on November 15, 1907 by Luther and Lillie Ewing Bixby. The first post office in Bixby opened on December 5, 1907. When it closed on January 3, 1912 due to low mail volume, it was the only post office in Noble County not open during the year 1911-12 because of World War I. The present day town of Bixby was organized on February 14, 1912 by a group of men from rural Noble County who had taken up arms against what they believed were Native American Invaders. The name "Bixby" originated from an Indian word meaning "a place where buffalo roam." The first permanent settler in what would become Bixby was Luther Ewing Bixby Sr., a white man who arrived with his family in 1907. He soon began farming and platted land around his home which he named after himself and his wife Lillie (née Hardesty). By 1912 there were three other families living in what would later become Bixby: Mr. Crawford’s family came over wagon train from Haskell County; Mrs. Hinson’s family moved from Muskogee; and Jordon White brought over some cows from Wichita Falls to homestead near present day Donnellsville Road/Oregon Trail Road intersection which served as the town square for many years before being replaced by the square now located east of Old Main Street./ When World War I began on April 6th 1914 local citizens enlisted and within two weeks all of Noble County had responded with their full quota since no one could be found to fill all available positions that were called for at that time including those listed as “Incomers” or those who had not answered their questionnaire yet claimed exemption because they were already serving or did not have enough children to qualify for service./ On October 3rd 1914 local residents convened together to discuss creating branch offices throughout the county so people could get more involved if needed should war erupt again../ On November 15th 1907 Luther Ewing Bixbys wife Lillie gave birth to their first child Roy Caxley Bordenbaugh biding her time until she could again give birth so she too could serve in WWI like her husband./ In 1922 when Roy passed away his father donated $2,000 towards building a new school across Idlewild Rd/Oregon Trail Rd.- This money funded construction of Drury School which opened its doors September 9th 1923/ Today Drury School still stands as one of our most proud community landmarks & has been home to many students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through High School.– On July 7th 1915Oklahoma State Legislature endorsed plan presented by Mayor James Waddell & Representative John Fenton proposing annexation of neighboring Cherokee Nation into Oklahoma.– On November 2nd 1916Oklahoma General Election results showed that 91% of voters approved annexation possibility with just 10% opposed./ On January 4th 1917Oklahoma Territorial Legislature ratified plan proposed by Mayor James Waddell& Representative John Fenton proposing annexation into Oklahoma.; With this action Apache Land Company acquired 1 mile long strip along Oregon Trail Rd.- This land also included parts currently known as downtown Tulsa.- In 1919 Apache Land Company sold strip adjacent to present day Donnellsville Road (west side) & Oregon Trail Rd.- This land became known as Parkland.– After World War I Cowboy Days took place annually at various spots around Noble County attracting thousands of visitors.– Finally realignment occurred within Oklahoma state boundaries resulting in current location for BixBY

Bixby is a town in Payne County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,907 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Payne County and home to the Bixby Air Force Base. The town was founded in 1907 by John Bixby and his wife Lilla as a small community on the banks of the Arkansas River. In 1912, Bixby became known as "the little city" due to its small size and lack of other physical features which made it stand out from other towns in Payne County. In 1915, the first post office was established in Bixby and continued serving until it was discontinued in 1951. In 1927, John Bixby purchased 320 acres (114 hectares) of land east of downtown Bixby on what is now called Dean Road. This purchase allowed him to develop what is now known as "Bixby Air Force Base". The base opened in July 1941 and served as an important staging ground for World War II military operations south of Oklahoma City. After the war, the airbase fell into disrepair but was saved by boosters who renovated it over time into one of the largest USAF bases in terms of area and employment during peacetime. Today, Bixby AFB continues to serve as an important hub for Aerospace engineering activities within OKC metropolitan area In 1979, local resident Jerry Vail organized a group that campaigned for new school construction on property northeast of downtown which would eventually become known as Vail Park. Despite initial opposition from some members of the community – including several prominent citizens – Vail's vision for a new high school led to construction starting in 1984 with enrollment increasing from 400 students when it opened to 3000 by 1990 It has been reported that around 95% or more students attending Vail Park are black or Hispanic; this achievement stands out given that most public schools located within walking distance of downtownOklahoma City are all white . Alongside these successes there have been numerous controversies surrounding aspects such as budget overruns at Vail Park while also raising concerns about race relations within Payne County overall since its inception
