Bixby is a city in the US state of Oklahoma, located on the Arkansas River. The population was 21,690 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Bixby is known for its brands such as QuikTrip and Bed, Bath & Beyond. The first settlement in what is now Bixby was an Indian town called Pawnee Wells. A post office called Bixby was established in 1872, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1912, a group of businessmen from Tulsa formed the townsite organization Bixby Land Company to purchase land east of present-day downtown Bixby from Jesse James's cattle drive gangsters. The company built a dam across the Arkansas River and named it after its founder, Arthur Ewing Bixby Jr.. In 1951, energy startup Texaco bought most of what are now QuikTrip stores in Tulsa; seven years later they donated all but one to local school district officials who opened up the stores as schools within their districts. The store still stands today (now occupied by IGA). It was once said that if you could find one Texaco store open when you were growing up in Tulsa it would be worth looking for... but sadly we have not been able to track down one! As with any business donation there are likely many more like this that remain hidden away over time! A large number of people who work or live here come from rural areas near Wichita Falls, TX or Amarillo, TX so there’s always something going on GET UP AND DANCE!!!!!!!!! We love our food here too!!!

Bixby, Oklahoma is a small town in the panhandle of Oklahoma. The town was founded in 1907 by A.W. Bixby and his family. It is located at the junction of highways 36 and 9, about 20 miles east of Tulsa. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. The town is named for Jock Bixby, an early settler who homesteaded on what is now Main Street in 1907. In 1923, Jock's son-in-law, Wernher Hennepin moved to Bixby from Muskogee to open a grocery store and become its first owner/manager. The store prospered until 1949 when it went bankrupt due to overspending on inventory and marketing efforts. In 1951, Wernher's daughter Lois Hennepin bought the business from her father and continued running it as a successful family-owned business until her death in 2006; after she had been ownership for more than fifty years uninterruptedly. In 2011, Wernher's widow sold the business back to Aiden & Lois Hennepin Trust which continues to run it as a private enterprise with their three children - Annabelle (Aiden), Wyatt (Lois' oldest child), and Brent (Annabelle's husband). The Post Office opened in 1907 but closed down within two years because of lack of customers or competition from other mail services in the area including the stagecoach line that ran through downtown Tulsa daily carrying mail between Tulsa and McAlester Kansas City which carried goods upriver all day long! Bixby quickly became known for its Produce Market where farmers brought their produce into town for sale by vendors who set up shop inside or outside of local hardware stores along Main Street during lunchtime until late afternoon when trains pulled into the station at night taking passengers home with their purchases! This market operated continuously until 1958 when it was destroyed by fire! After being closed down for over 50 years Bixby residents resurrected its Produce Market spirit beginning on November 3rd 1960 with Mayor John Armstrong hosting an outdoor market selling produce from his personal garden off State Highway 36 just east of town limits! More than 100 producers represented including many unknowns made an appearance selling produce fresh off their farms while friends gathered around watching !
In 1907, Bixby was founded by two men who were looking to start a new town in the area. The location was perfect for a small community, and the men quickly realized that they needed to find someone to manage the town's affairs. They eventually hired one of their friends, John A. Wagoner, as the first municipal manager. From then on, Bixby grew and prospered. In 1928, Wagoner moved the town's government from its original location on Main Street to its current site in what is now Old Town Square. In 1951, Bixby became an independent city under the leadership of Mayor Ray Kline.
