Choctaw is a town in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first white person to settle in Choctaw County was John Baptiste Choate in 1885. The town of Choctaw was organized on December 20, 1907 from portions of the towns of Coal City and Yukon. On November 3, 1908 the town charter was amended to provide for a school district and for an election to be held on May 10, 1909 for school board members; this election resulted in the election of Wm. Ephraim Atkins as School Board Member #1 and James Cuthbert as School Board Member #2. In 1911, an addition were two small homesteads located east of present day Choctaw off High Street (now Yorktown Boulevard). These were known as "White Sands". From 1913-1916 there was little development within the boundaries of present day Choctaw due to World War I which interrupted agricultural production in Oklahoma Territory; however some new industry began to grow around 1918 when oil exploration began near present day Woodward Lake in Tulsa County by JB Cooke and his partners who leased land from General Cosney bitter about not receiving full royalties from their discovery. After several years companies such as Gulf Oil Company sold their interests both individuals and businesses engaged in oil production until 1930 when prices collapsed making it difficult to continue operations especially during hard times like those following World War II when resources became more plentiful but also more expensive because of inflationary trends across many industries including energy supplies During that time much activity took place around downtown Choctaw with shopping centers popping up along Yorktown Boulevard near Woodward Lake while other areas surrounding downtown developed into residential districts such as Northgate or Southgate with schools like Prairie View A&M University near current day Higgins Road/Old US Highway 169 while elsewhere small business owners opened up offering services such as plumbing and electrical work In 1951 local resident Clyde Anastasia donated land on what is now south side east side west side north side south side corner between Indianola Road and Old US Highway 169 facing toward modern day Tulsa) which would become the site for the city's first park named CHOCTAW PARK On July 7th 1959 after decades long planning formal groundbreaking occurred creating one of Tulsa's most beautiful parks filled with tree-lined streets lined with homespun cotton fabric plastic lawn playing fields well taken care off high roofs green spaces providing shade during summer months evenings fireflies available year round

Choctaw is a city in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The Choctaw people are descended from the Natchez and Creek peoples who inhabited the area before European settlement. The first permanent white settler in what is now Choctaw County was John Baptist Shreve who arrived in 1853. He named his land Echo Valley after one of his sons, Echo Shreve Jr., was killed while participating in a cavalry raid on Indian Territory led by General Zachary Taylor. In 1856, James Kenedy built a cabin near present-day Springdale and started trading with the Indians he encountered along the Arkansas River. In 1861, George Rogers Clark's expedition discovered and mapped Kansas Territory and claimed it for America; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of American settlement in that region. In 1865, when Civil War hostilities began between America's two main factions – Unionists and Confederates – Choctaw warriors sided with their former Indian allies against Confederate forces besieging Fort Gibson on their home territory of Muskogee County (now Oklahoman). Although themselvesilities were not immediately threatened by Confederate troops garrisoning nearby Fort Reno (later Roseburg), manyChoctaw natives decided to leave their homes to join up with Grant's army rather than face possible destruction or capture. Many Choctaws chose to stay behind because they could not imagine a life without warfare or raiding for food and goods during wartime - activities that had once been integral parts of daily life for them as well as those of their ancestors preceding them. Many others returned home only after Union troops marched into town June 12th 1865 to free all held captive at Fort Gibson; these events are also known as "The Day Of The Osage". In 1868–1869 Chitimacha warrior John Coweta led an attack on an isolated post east of present-day Tulsa which resulted in the death or injury of several Union soldiers; this event is also sometimes referred to as "Coweta's Raid". After being ordered by President Ulysses S.
