After World War II, when Wichita County experienced rapid growth as a result of oil production, Del City saw its share too –though it still remained relatively small compared to other nearby towns such as Guthrie and Tulsa. However,employment opportunities for weary Oklahomans during those years grew slowly due to technological advancements; nevertheless, residents kept close touch with family and friends across state lines through air mail service until well into the 21st century. By 1990, only 3 percent of residents reported having more than one national passport; however’s just over half had two or more passports. In 2000 Census figures show that barely 1 percent of residents over 50 were foreign born “of some other country” while 15 percent selfidentified as being either Native American or “ proudlyOklahoma Native American”* [*Note: This percentage could be higher if certain criteria are met such as residing continuously in Oklahoma for six consecutive years]. Del City is a town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Del City was founded in 1907 by settlers from Farmington, Kansas. The first post office in Del City opened on December 7, 1907. The name of the town was changed to Del City in 1914 after it became part of the new Wichita County, Oklahoma Territory. In 1925, the OK District No. 2 School Board moved to Del City and continued operations until 1959 when it merged with OK District No. 1 to form district No. 2 which still operates today as a public school system within Haskell County government."

Del City was founded in 1907 by James A. Delmore. The town grew rapidly due to the production of oil and gas reserves in the area. In 1916, the Oklahoma Legislature granted cityhood to Del City, making it one of the first cities in Oklahoma. By 1920, Del City had a population of 508 people and a school system that included 10 schools. The city's growth slowed during World War II because of the shortage of soldiers for service in Europe. However, after the war, Del City began to grow again as businesses expanded into new areas such as trucking and manufacturing. In 1964, the city added a second downtown district which became known as "The Arts District". In 1978, local businessman Donnie Tatum donated land to make way for an arena that would become home to the Tulsa Oilers professional basketball team. The Oilers were renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder in 1984 and have played their current home since then.
