Jenks was a small town in northeast Oklahoma before the outbreak of World War II. It became home to the OKLA Gunnery School during the war, and then an ammunition plant. The plant closed in the early 1960s, but gun targets remain at Jenks Historical Museum.

The community was named for James Fenton Jenks, an early settler in the area. The first permanent white settlement in what is now Jenks County was established at what is now known as Hubley's Creek on March 2, 1872 by Captain John Hubley and his son George Hubley. The Hubleys were pioneers who had come from Illinois to establish a ranch on the Wichita River in present-day Jenks County. The first post office in Jenks County was established on October 25, 1875 by Wm J. Healy with the name of "Jenkins". It served until February 3, 1907 when it changed its name to "Jenkinsville". In 1905, A C Hatfield opened a grocery store in Jenkinsville which became one of the most successful businesses in Jenks County. He continued to operate his store until his death on May 5, 1957. This business structure remains today as Hatfield's Grocery Incorporated which operates under the leadership of its current president and CEO Darrell Smith Jr.. According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau, Jenkinsville had a total population of 1,060 people; both male and female populations totaled 614 individuals. Hispanic or Latino residents made up 10% of Jenkinsville's population (of all racial makeup). The median age withinJenkinsvillewas 46 years old; 30% were younger than 44 years old; 24% were 45 years old or older; and 8% were 54 years or older. In terms of education levels: 60% percent (or more) of residents reported having some formnette education beyond high school while only 2% reported having no formal education at all! Seven people were killed and six others were wounded when General Eaton's men fired onto these villages from a distance of about 50 yards using Trapdoor Gun Target Rifles manufactured by Stevens & Company (now Remington). The first true gun target rifle was designed by American arms manufacturer George Steiner in 1854 while working for Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company . This weapon was known as the Colt Target Rifle and it used an octagon-shaped barrel drilled into a clay or wood stock which allowed shooters to fire small rounds at close range without having to take cover or use gloves. It was interesting to note that at this time muzzle velocity (the speed at which bullets travel through air) was only about 800 feet per second! However, due to its smooth bore design and high accuracy potential, this weapon quickly became popular among outdoorsmen across America! By 1857, revolver manufacturerSpringfield Armory had also introduced its own version of this firearm known as the Springfield Trapdoor Gun Target Rifle . This model featured a unique hammerless trapdoor breech which made it easier for shooters to chamber rounds while still being able to maintain accurate aim! The popularity of trapdoor guns continued throughout the 1860s until finally disappearing altogether during the early 20th century!

One of the most prominent aspects of Jenks history is its role as a vital center during World War II. During World War II, Jenks played an important role in providing goods and services to local military units stationed here. Some of these units included the Tulsa National Guard detachment that served under General George Smedley Butler at bomber bases across America; and the 1st Cavalry Regiment which was quartered atJenkins for months at a time during 1942-1943. The town achieved notoriety when it was bombed by Japanese bombers on December 7th, 1945 - one day after President Harry Truman announced his decision to end Japan's war effort by surrendering on August 14th. The bombing resulted in damage to many buildings within town but no injuries or fatalities occurred due to Allied airstrikes throughout Japan at that time. This event remains one of history's most dramatic moments in Tulsa's municipal history
After the Indian removal in 1838, Jenks was one of the largest and most important towns in Indian Territory. The town was founded by McIntosh County settlers in1839. It became a principal trading center for the area, and it soon became a populous community with a large white population. Jenks was destroyed by an American Civil War raid on June 9, 1861. The raiders burned down all of the buildings except for the courthouse and jail which they took as trophies.
