However, growth slowed during World War II and subsequent economic downturns; by 1960, MidwestCity's population stood at 7,500 people. However, due to suburbanization and other factors, MidwestCity's population increased rapidly between 1990 and 2000; by 2010 it had reached 10+,000 residents once again. In recent years there have been efforts to revitalize downtown Midtown with new development including art galleries and restaurants; however these changes have not yet resulted in significant changes to the demographics or character of Downtown Midwest City overall
