Tulsa, Oklahoma is a city located in the greater Tulsa area of the state of Oklahoma. The population was estimated to be over 285,000 as of 2019. The city is the county seat for Tulsa County and is located on the Arkansas River near its confluence with the Missouri River. It was founded by Major General George Rogers Clark in 1819 and named after President James K. Polk’s vice president, Andrew Johnson. The history of Tulsa begins with cattle drives from Texas that began in 1836. At first, many people thought that this travel would lead to war between the United States and Mexico because there were so many differences in culture and language between those two countries. Eventually, it became clear that this was not going to happen and traders started arriving in town looking for land to farm or trade goods with. In 1839, Mayor John Cushing appointed Drury Elliott as mayor because he could speak Spanish fluently which made him an ideal choice for this position since he had experience working outside of Tulsa proper. In 1860, when America acquired Texas from Mexico through The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the government decided that Tulsa should be part of the new state because it had a large Mexican population living inside of Mexico City at that time (over 200,000 people). This caused some tension among local citizens who felt like they had been taken advantage of by their Mexican counterparts during what seemed like an unfair deal. However, after much discussion and protest against Governor Edwin Jackson’s decision – led by Mayor Cushing – everything eventually calmed down once word got out about how good things would actually work out for everyone involved if they just followedthrough with it. Tensions continued to simmer until 1861 when a small group led by Enoch Pratt set out on horseback into Indian Territory to scout out land for a railroad project because they felt that if they didn’t get permission from their chiefs then someone else might do so before them anyway (this plan ultimately failed). After spending several months scouting around various locations including present-day Wichita Falls – which at that time was still part of Texas – Pratt finally came up with a site for what would become Tulsa on November 16th, 1861 under cover of darkness. This location provided plenty of space due to all the hills nearby and also meant that no one other than Cherokee Chief Osage needed approval from his followers before building could begin (which he did not). An interesting note about this day is that today’s Constitution Avenue was also designated as “Enoch Pratt Boulevard” in his honor back then! Although initial construction only lasted until May 1863 due to financial difficulties brought on by bad weather conditions (the tornado season was starting), it soon became apparent that such a large town could not be built without more infrastructure such as water systems and sewer systems being put into place first! In fact, even today many streets within downtown are still named after early pioneers such as Judge John Witherspoon (founder/owner/director/producerof Western TV show “Wichita Eagle News Club”) or Captain Grady Judd (founder/owner/director/producerof ABC daytime show “Yes Minister”). During these early years there were some pretty innovative minds behind every aspect of business ownership including J&J Collender & Sons Merchants Warehouse which served as both headquarters for operations as well as housing for employees; Smedley Butler Hardware where customers could buy anything from nails to rifles; Gertrude Chandler Theatre where plays were performed until 1935; First National Bank which opened its doors on February 14th 1865; Masonic Temple #4 which housed both indoor AND outdoor stages until 1958; downtown merchants who donated items such as furniture or clothes etc.; oil wells drilled near where present day Elm Street meets Market Street originally called Spring Creek but renamed Murphy Oil Field following World War II while still situated within boundaries defined by Ulysses S Grant -presumably meaning nothing less than industry giant Chevron Incorporated...and even homebuildersstantial Edmondson Homes platted very precisely off North Seventh Street almost immediately adjacent thereto bounded only incidentally by Cottonwood Road but feet deep downmarket Nevertheless practically every single block south thereof lay open country liable either tcrawls cuz no trees grew thereabouts till next century...all except maybe blocksnorthwest corner thereof bordered only incidentally cuz yelloaks blocked sightings cfotnighttime sun cczan owl hunters overnight...all told probably 100 miles worth ol ol Trees
