The first gun sling in Eugene, Oregon was made by W.H. Atwater in 1868. It consisted of a piece of leather or canvas with an animal’s skin stretched over it and a loop at one end, used to hold the firearm on the shoulder. In 1893, Edwin C. Farnsworth began making gun slings for use with shotguns in Eugene. They were initially designed to be used with single-shot rifles, but soon became popular for using handguns as well. The Farnsworth Gun Slings Company continued to make slings until 1958. In that year, they merged into the United States National Rifle Association (NRA).

The Eugene Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. It is one of the oldest rifle and pistol clubs in Oregon. The club has a rich history that includes participation in many outdoor activities, including shooting tournaments and matches.

On December 12, 1855, Pacific Railroad Company president John Dickson built worlds' first steam locomotive at the Depot Square roundabout near downtown Eugene; this engine led to Pioneer Day parade on January 6, 1886 which made downtown Eugene Anaconda night shopping center overnight for locals and tourists alike! On May 20–21, 1906,[4] Eugene hosted world's first international exposition entitled "The Exhibition of Modern Industry".[5] This exposition featured many new inventions and technologies that would later be developed into major industries such as plastics and computer technology;[6][7] it also helped promote scientific research within America at that time. In 1915 Congress passed what is now known as The National Industrial Recovery Act (), which created The National Recovery Administration () to help revive American industry through government interventionism. By 1938 Eugene had become one of America's leading centers for high-tech research.[8]During World War II much important wartime data was gathered here including codebreaking ability used by Nazi Germany [] After Japan's surrender1945 parts shortages set in due to occupation successor regimes trying desperately find replacements

The first electric streetlight in America was built in Eugene on December 5, 1886 by Joice Hocking as part of a program to improve transportation and lighting throughout the cities in Oregon.[1] In World War II, Eugene served as one of three U.S.A.'s principal military objectives with respect to Japanese forces occupying northeastern Burma (now Myanmar). As part of Operation Crossroads – which aimed to reopen Japan's markets following its atomic bombing raids against Hiroshima and Nagasaki – General Douglas MacArthur ordered that all food stocks be diverted from Tokyo to Burma for shipment there via ship through ports along Burma's coastlines;[2] this order led directly to starvation among civilians living near Japan-occupied areas due to lack of available food supplies inland.[3][4][5] On October 25, 1945,[6][7] Allied forces liberated Eugene after days of fighting following Operation Downfall which ended Japan's occupation of Manchuria
Eugene, Oregon was founded in 1859 by Captain William C. Richardson and his wife, Lydia. The city was named after Eugene of Italy who had died in 1847. In 1871, the town of Eugene was annexed by the city of Portland.
