Mcminnville is a small town in Oregon, located about 15 miles east of Bend. The population was 511 at the 2010 census. Mcminnville is home to the nearby University of Portland, one of the largest public universities in the United States. The name "Mcminnville" first appeared on official maps in 1846 as part of the donation by General John McLaughlin to build a courthouse and jail in this community. The post office called the settlement "McMinnville" until it was renamed for General George H. McMillin in 1853. It was also at one time known as Prineville because that was its original location west of current day McMinnville Cemetery. The community's first store, built in 1868, was destroyed by a fire but rebuilt within a few months and became an important factor in its growth. On July 1, 1902, the city of Bend incorporated as a separate municipality with equal rights to Mcminnville and Prineville Township (the old township boundaries). When Interstate 5 bypassed Bend on its new alignment southward in 1965, McminnVILLE had to change transportation plans because their only bus service stopped at I-5/Oregon Route 8 near milepost 20 (now milepost 21). To ease congestion caused by this changeover there were plans for a light rail line through town which never materialized due to opposition from local citizens who saw it as unnecessary expense and too ambitious for what would be an already crowded town. However some residents did create an online petition which eventually got support from then Mayor Michael Demarest and City Manager Rick Howlett before being approved by voters on November 3rd ballot 2002-2004 despite heavy opposition from business owners who felt they were not getting fair value for their money when compared to other communities along I-5 which received more development funding than McminnVILLE despite having smaller populations. With population growth rates below that seen around Bend or Eugene however We Street Bridge has been able to keep up with housing needs while still maintaining a small shopping district that includes several banks, two restaurants and four stores including two big box stores since opening back in 2001 called “The Big Box” and “Taco Bell” just east of downtown on We Street between NE First Ave & NE Third Ave.). Mcminnville is a small town in Oregon, located about 25 miles southeast of Portland. The population was 596 at the 2010 census. The first inhabitants of the area that now Mcminnville were two groups of Native Americans, the Kalapuya and the Pomo. They were killed by white settlers in 1847 after a skirmish over land. The first store in what is now Mcminnville opened in 1851. In 1865, a group of Englishmen who had come to Oregon as miners discovered coal near Mcminnville, and began to mine it. The town was named after Captain John A. McNaught, who exploratory mined nearby hills for coal until he died in 1869. In 1905, an act by the state legislature authorized the erection of schools in each county in Oregon (and this included all but one of the then 19 counties within Oregon). And so on October 3rd that year, local schoolteachers founded a schoolhouse at what is now Main Street in Mcminnville. It functioned as a school until 1915 when it burned down; however, another school was erected soon afterward on what is now First Avenue East outside the town limits (it still functions as a public educational facility today). Population growth has slowed since World War II; however, some new development has taken place such as subdivision around Highway 97 just west of town and increased use of air conditioning and other amenities brought on by suburbanization/urbanization elsewhere throughout Northeast Portland which began during that time period also - making Mcminnville more like most other American towns with similar demographics today: overwhelmingly white Anglo-Saxon Protestants with some non-white residents here and there among those who identify themselves primarily as “Native American” or “Hispanic” or else specifically Mormon or evangelical Christian - although newcomer populations are increasingly becoming visible too through various nightlife activities taking place downtown which attract people from all walks of life including many people from surrounding suburbs/ rural areas where much heavier industry once thrived both before and after Interstate 5 supplanted Interurban rail service between those places

The community of Mcminnville, Oregon was founded in 1877 by two white men, John and George McNulty. The community grew quickly, and by 1896 it had a population of 350 people. In 1898, the McNulty family donated land to the town for the erection of a schoolhouse and other public buildings. The McNulty family also donated $1,000 to help lay out the town. By 1907, Mcminnville had a population of 1,500 people. In 1912, the McNulty family sold their share in the town to James Fenton for $10,000. In 1916, Fenton renamed Mcminnville "Minnville." At this time, Minnville contained a post office (1896), store (1898), bank (1912-1915), hotel (1916), theater (1918-1920), and three churches: First Presbyterian (founded 1878), Methodist Episcopal (established 1888), and Baptist(founded 1892).
