There is no doubt that the history of gun targets in Newberg, Oregon dates back to at least the early 1800s. There are numerous references to target shooting events and tournaments taking place in this town, dating back to as early as 1820. At one point, Newberg was home to one of the most successful firearms manufacturers in Oregon – Griswold Manufacturing Company. This company manufactured rifles and shotguns both military and hunting-related equipment. griswold targets were used for a variety of purposes including training exercises, competition, and public entertainment. In 1892, the first trap shooting event took place in Newberg. The event was organized by Mayor James McNamara and consisted of twenty-five traps set up around town square. The objective of the event was to collect as many arrows as possible from the traps during a ten minute period. This inauguraltrap shooting tournament marked an important milestone in local firearm history and helped popularize this type of activity among residents of Newberg. Throughout its years,Newberg has been home to some amazing gun targets! These beautiful specimens have been donated or rented by individuals or businesses who have enjoyed hostingtarget shoots throughout the year. Some highlights include: 1896 – The first rifle target competition held in Newberg took place at Park Hall on State Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue. It featured fifty different rifle targets made out of wooden boards with various distances between them; each board measured sixty-four inches wide x thirty-six inches long x two feet high (thirty-two inch width X forty inch length X four foot height). The goal of this competition was to score as many points as possible using any type of rifle allowed at that time by organizers via “flagging” each shot with a white cloth until it registered a perfect 10 points on an electronic scoreboard located near the gate area where competitors could watch their shots attempt to match those scored by other contestants over time…This event became known locally as “The Big Game” 1901 – In order To increase participation in Rifle Target Shooting matches held annually throughout Oregon starting with 1903 there were changes made which included making all typesof rifles available for use through registration rather than just those specifically chosen for use such as shotguns; however due primarily to financial reasons not every match would beheld; nevertheless these matches still constituted an important partof shotgun ammunition production within Oregon 2003 - In celebration of OSBIA 100th Anniversary we will be hostinga series retrospective banquet/meeting on Saturday evening November 5th at 6pm at Hotel Bristol across from City Market Theater….We would liketo express our sincere gratitude towards everyone who has contributed so generously over these past few years….. Newberg, Oregon is a small town located in the Wallowa Mountains of eastern Oregon. The population was 3,448 at the 2010 census. Newberg is home to the University of Oregon and its main campus. It also has two smaller campuses: the Newberg Center for Creative Studies and the Newberg School of Theology. The village began as a post office on December 6, 1873, by Wm. H. Gibbs with a population of three inhabitants. The first store opened in 1875 and became known as the Gibbs Store until 1898 when it was purchased by A.F. Yates and renamed the Yates Store & Trading Post #2 after him. In 1907, Jens Petersen opened his first grocery store in what would become known as Pioneer Place (later called Main Street). This store would be business headquarters for many years before it was replaced by Yates's Grocery which closed in 1984. A new building was built on Main Street between 1912 and 1914 for Lillie Bemis' Antiques Company (now part of Pacific Commercial Bank). At this time, Main Street became locally known as "Lillee Avenue". In 1915-16, John Nolen founded an oil well near what is now Old Town Newberg while serving as an Independent Sheriff from neighboring Butte County; he named his well Nolen Well No 1 after himself and developed what is now downtown Newbergh using equipment leased from Valdez Oil Field Service Company Incorporated (VOFSC). The parade ground now occupied byiments including First Baptist Church (northwest corner),physical plant consisting of four rigs used to drill wells used oil& gas production - these are still there today adjacent to old post office buildings/warehouse complex along alley running northeast-southwest bisection blocks fronting square block bounded east-west bordered northwesterly section blocks back then lots owned by early settlers lot sizes varied from nearly 50 feet (.15 meters) wide to nearly 100 feet (.30 meters) wide lot sizes increased during late 1800s thru 1920s although acreage decreased rapidly following discovery due to changingProduction techniques landowner transitioned from leasing surface rights & producing leasehold interest thereto gradually becoming owner outright Development proceeded slowly until 1950s when large parcels were acquiredby Multnomah County government through process called Open Lands Acquisition Act which transferred ownership thereby creating Open Space Preserve District Name changed accordingly october 15th 1957

The town grew rapidly after gold was discovered nearby in 1879 and soon became a boomtown with businesses like mills, churches, and schools. The late 1800s were a time of growth for Newberg as well as other towns around the state of Oregon. Businesses began to move from rural areas into larger cities like Portland and Salem, creating new opportunities for people to find work and make money. In 1916, the city of Portland merged with neighboring Salem to form one large municipality which continued to grow over the years. By 1920, more than 50% of all businesses in Salem were located within the city limits. Today, Newberg is home to a variety of cultural attractions including an art museum, a library system that includes several hundred books on various topics, a theater company (theatre District), restaurants and nightlife options, and small business districts full of boutiques and tattoo parlors
