In 1864, the United States government purchased land in Oregon City, Oregon from the local Native American tribe. The land would be used to build Fort Hall, one of the first military installations in the region. In 1875, Congress passed a law authorizing the creation of a national Ammunition Manufacturers and Retailers Association (AMRA) to promote ammunition production and trade in the United States. AMRA was incorporated on July 1, 1875. The first store in Oregon City was built on Second Street between SW 3rd and SE 2nd avenues. The store had two floors with an additional basement for storage. AMRA became a member organization ofthe National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) in 1978. In 1984, AMRA merged with another ammo manufacturing association named Ammo Producers of America (APA). Since its inception as an ammo association, AMRA has been responsible for helping to support American firearms manufacturers and retailers through programs such as education and marketing initiatives; providing access to data on ammunition sales; and developing rules related to firearm manufacture and trade.

The first permanent settler in Oregon City was James Irvine who built a log cabin on present day Chinatown Street in 1854." In 1865, John Sutter arrived from California with 10 men and began ranching around modernday Bend, including parts of what are now Eugene and Seattle neighborhoods. In 1870, Sutter establishedthe first store in what is now downtown Oregon City." Downtown development continued through World War II when many businesses moved out or were destroyed by fire during bombing raids that took place over the city; however much redevelopment occurred following World War II when downtown became one of the most vibrant sections along with nearby Burnside Avenue which still retains some commercial activity today." When Interstate 5 bypassed downtown between I-5 & 4th Ave., several small businesses closed down including Joes Jazz Bistro which served coffee until they went out of business around 1980 while also housing offices until they were demolished in 2009; however all evidence suggests that once I-5 came through town again things started to rebound again with new development such as another jazz restaurant (Aloha Coffee) opening up next door about 2006 before being taken down again about 2013" OregonCity has always been known for its rough-and-tumble history as well as its role in early days of Oregoniana although there have been significant changesover time including: The growth rate for Downtown commerce slowed starting around 1970s due to distance from other areas while new areas developed closer to Interstate 5 or near highway exits making Downtown more accessible ." Illinois Theatre closed down shop permanently cuz their lease expired & replaced by 2nd story property adjacent theater across street which continues operationsalbeit at $10/hr retail instead o/$15 hr office services currently available . . . ."illardia Theater complex also closed shop prioritizing rent over profits cuz management felt too stretched thin ." A&P Grocery store opened locally cuz no one wanted Interstate 5 Across Street! Though not directly related to this article though.)
Oregon City was founded on December 17, 1847 by wagon train settlers from the Oregon Territory. The town was named for then-President James K. Polk and his wife, Rachel Carson. Oregon City was a small town with only 100 residents when it first emerged in the early 1850s. However, the growth of the railroad network and the arrival of more settlers helped to create a more sizeable community by 1855. By 1870, Oregon City had become an important manufacturing center for goods exported to California and other parts of the United States.
