As a result of this redevelopment, many old buildings were preserved and used for new apartment blocks or commercial structures; one such example is Market Square across from Pioneer Courthouse Plaza which still remains one of Portland's most popular tourist destinations today despite being among its oldest buildings dating back to 1853!
