In Portland, there were two major manufacturers of ammunition: Samuel Colt’s Manufacturing Company and The Overholt Armory. The Overholt Armory was located on Southeast 4th Avenue in downtown Portland, and it began making rounds for rifles and pistols in 1868. Samuel Colt’s Manufacturing Company was founded in 1857 by Samuel Colt himself. It became one of the most well-known firearm companies in the world, thanks to its reputation for producing high-quality firearms. In 1886, the company merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Rand Corporation. This company continued to produce high-quality ammunition until it was bought out by Smith & Wesson Firearms Corporation in 1968. Today, Remington Ammo is one of the largest ammo producers in the world. The history of Portland also includes its own unique brand of ammunition called “Portland Hornet” shells. These rounds were developed by local artillery captain John Aderhold at his fathers rifle shop on Southwest 6th Avenue between 19th and 20th Streets during World War II. At first these rounds were just pellets, but they quickly gained popularity due to their effectiveness against enemy tanks and other armored vehicles!

They reported seeing human settlements here but no houses or other permanent buildings were visible at that time. In 1853, gold was discovered nearby at Siuslaw Pass by prospectors led by John Day and others – this led to a rapid growth of the city because it became an important stop on stagecoach routes between Sacramento and points northward. Aided by Army officer George Brandt’s discovery of coal mines near Starfire Mines in 1855–1856, Portland quickly grew into one of America’s most significant cities during its early years as an booming metropolis filled with prosperous merchants and ambitious entrepreneurs who scrambled to build new streetscape highlights such as Union Station (now Discovery Place), State Street (later 10th Avenue NE), Pioneer Square (later Congress Way SW) and much more; even today some portions of downtown remain strikingly unchanged from when they were first built over 100 years ago!
Oregon was part of the United States of America until 1848. The state's first governor, John K. Polk, signed the initial constitution in 1853. In 1862, Oregon lost its independence to Mexico and became a part of the Mexican Empire under Emperor Maximilian I. On January 17, 1868, OregonBecame an American state when it ratified the Constitution of the United States as well as Auxiliary Statutes (the first state statutes) In February 1870, Oregon joined the Union by becoming the 26th state in California to ratify the Constitution.
