The name stuck and today's residents are descended from those who first called Redmonds home. The early years were difficult forREDMOND because there wasn't much land available for farming or ranching outside of Portland. However, with hard work and determination by many residents things started to change around 1910 when two natural gas wells were discovered just east of town near present-day Alberta Road and Burnside Street. With this boom in business came jobs for both men and women as well as new homes being erected all around town including one tower that held 511 apartments! Banks such as First National Bank opened up shop soon after while several newspapers like The Oregonian (now TheOregonian Pilot) were established hereabouts to help keep things moving along! In 1912 Wilson Glass Company opened up shop here too making Redmond one of the most vibrant cities in Oregon right before World War I pulled America out of war! This large influx of industry led to more housing being built which housed everyone from farmers to office workers! Things started winding down during WWI but again something rallied throughout 1920s when Boeing purchased 3% interest in Wilson Glass Company! Shortly thereafter they moved into their current building next door on SW Morrison Street! This period marked a time when REDMOND truly blossomed into its current form with many businesses flourishing due to ORTOMA’s highly skilled workforce plus some amazing engineering feats accomplished here like THE WINGED FALCON – A COCKPIT LANDWALK IN THE CENTER OF CITY THAT WAS FIRST FLOWN BY A AIRLINE AND NOW OPERATES AS A PUBLIC SAFETY AREA – AND BREATHTAKING TOWERS LIKE “THE EAGLE” WHICH CLIMBS TO OVER 100 FEET IN FLIGHT! During WWII there was another big spikeoil production comingled with military activity so much so that parts OF REDMOND got bombed!! Some would say this era was tough but we can remember our community hosting events such as Homecoming Parade & Festival etc., proving that anything is possible during these tough times !!

Redmond was founded in 1851 by John Redmond and his brother, James. The city's first post office opened in 1852. In 1861, Redmond became the capital of Oregon Territory. In 1865, the Territorial Legislature renamed the city Redmond after John Redmond, one of its members. The city's first mayor was George Reynolds. In 1870, a new railroad line was built through Redmond and it became an important center for shipping goods from Seattle to Portland and other parts of Oregon. In 1886, a fire destroyed most of the downtown business district, but it did not affect the growth of Redmond as an economic center. Theodore Roosevelt visited Redmond in 1911 while on state-sponsored tour of Northwest America. He appreciated the town's "beautiful setting" and called it "a picturesque little village". In 1912–13, President William Howard Taft visited Redmond during his presidential campaign Stop in Oregon before traveling to Seattle and then back downriver to Eugene on May 1st 1913; this visit markedTaft's third such trip to Oregon within three years (the others being in April 1909 – months before he took office – when he toured Salem andPortland). On July 24th 1913 local paper reported that Mr Taft had made a speech at Willamette University which aroused great interest throughout Oregon due to its novelty at that time: “I need scarcely say that I have found much satisfaction with my explorations into these Western Territories since taking up my residence hereabouts last fall; for I can tell you without any reserve that there is plenty yet for us both if we work together for the good of all concerned” This speech also occasioned some protest from university students who felt they had been overpaid for their services by Senator Taft’s predecessor Alpheus Powell
