Wilsonville is a small town in Oregon, located about 30 miles south of Portland. It was founded in 1853 by Captain David C. Wilson and his family, who named the town in honor of General George Wilson, who had come to Oregon as part of the United States Exploring Expedition of 1827. The first school in Wilsonville was built on the site of present-day Pioneer Hall. The town's population peaked at around 100 people in the early 1920s, but decreased rapidly during World War II due to military enlistments and the scarcity of resources. However, since the war's end it has slowly regained its former size and prosperity. Amongst other things, the scopes industry relies on a number of local businesses and organizations to help produce optics products that are used by astronomers throughout North America and beyond. These include American Optics Corporation (AOC), which manufactures most OFc telescopes; Litton Observatory Inc., which operates one of Oregon's largest astronomical observatories; and Powell Observatory Inc., which is home to one of OR's only public robotic telescope installations

Wilsonville is a small town in the U.S. state of Oregon located on the Snake River at its confluence with the Tualatin River. The population was 5,000 as of 2009, and it is the county seat for Multnomah County. It is also home to Oregano Cellars, one of Oregon's oldest wine stores and restaurants. The name "Wilsonville" was first given to the town by General John Custer during his march through Multnomah County in 1874 when he named five nearby communities after generals who had fought in the Civil War: Milwaukie, Mount Hood, Wilsonville Heights, Tom Price Station and Veneta. The first settler in Wilsonville was Elias Sills who arrived around 1875. He built a cabin on what is now First Street and ran a general store there until 1880 when he moved to what is now Third Street. Sills' son-in-law Abram Miller founded what became Miller's Bank in 1881 which remains an important part of the community today. In 1886, four men from Enterprise left their farm near present day Troutdale to start a flour mill which would become one of Multnomah County's most important businesses. That same year saw the opening of the Wilsonville Post Office just east of downtown and within two years there were also three stores and two hotels in town - all run by local entrepreneurs like Wm Haddonfield or Hiram Aiken Hubbard Sr.. By 1912 there were 12 businesses active in Wilsonville with 1,500 residents taking care of everything from groceries to employment services; this number has only grown since then! In 1907 Captain Mims established Fort Vancouver Naval Base at what is now Portland harbor where he employed over 200 sailors including many women who cooked for him and served as nurses during World War I; they are still remembered today as "Portland’s Own." This naval base helped contribute significantly to Portland’s economic development which continued until 1945 when it closed due to World War II military activity at Pearl Harbor; however some remnants can still be seen today such as Fort Vancouver National Monument (opened in 1917) and USS Monitor Museum (opened 1959). Multnomah County began drafting plans for its own government defined by representative democracy after territorial boundaries were redrawn following World War II; Wilsonville played an integral role throughout these early deliberations with citizens pushing for term limits on county commissioners so that more local control could be exerted over governance! The town experienced much growth during World War II as it became an important manufacturing center for war materials such as munitions and airplanes. However, the city's prosperity ended following the war when many factories closed down or went out of business. Today Wilsonville is a small community with a few residual properties remaining which are used for farming or serving as holiday homes.
