In the early 1800s, there were few places in Oregon where firearms were allowed. The area now known as Woodburn was part of the Rogue River country and was not considered a desirable place to live. However, some people did manage to get firearms and use them for hunting. In 1827, John Crouch opened a store in what is now Woodburn and started selling ammunition. At first, he only sold shotgun rounds but later began selling rifle rounds as well. In 1828, John Wesley Powell passed through the area on his way to visit points north. He stopped at Crouch's store and used the ammo to shoot an animal that he had seen on his journey. This event started the era of gun ownership in Woodburn and it has remained an important factor in its history ever since.

The first ammunition in Woodburn was a cannonball fired from a ship in 1844. In 1861, the Oregon Territory included Woodburn and it became part of the new United States of America. In 1865, battle rounds were being used by Union forces to shoot down Confederate artillery batteries during the Battle of Bull Run.

The moist climate and rich soils make Oregon an ideal place to grow trees. Oats, barley, wheat, potatoes, corn and other crops are also grown in Oregon. The first people to live in what is now Oregon were the Clovis culture. They lived along the coast of California before moving inland. The Clovis culture was followed by the Pomo people who built villages on long river valleys. The Pomo were hunters and gatherers who grew maize and other crops. In about 1040 AD a group of men from Japan came to Oregon and started trading with the Pomo people. They brought religious objects such as idols and jugs back to Japan with them. In 1820 AD a group of Americans founded Independence Rock on Mount Hood in present-day Portland, Oregon. This was the first permanent American settlement in what is now Oregon! The settlers named their rock Independence because they felt that this was an important spot for freedom from British rule. Portland became a town in 1851 AD when it was incorporated as a city! Today Portland is one of North America's largest cities with over 200,000 residents!

In 1845, a group of Americans led by Captain James K. Polk sailed from New Orleans on the USS Constitution to establish a new government in Oregon. They named their new land "Oregon" after General George Washington's region of North America. The first settlers in Woodburn were manorial farmers who grew corn, hay, and other crops. By the 1830s, however, logging had become an important economic activity in the area. In 1847, lumber baron John Hargrave organized a company to cut logs for pulpwood near present-day Brookings. The company became known as the Portland Lumber Company and built mills along the Willamette River. As logging grew more important, so did transportation needs for goods and people traveling to and from the mills. In 1850, Congress authorized the construction of a road between Portland and Salem to facilitate trade with Asia. The road was called the Oregon Trail because it connected both cities through Oregon territory. When word spread about what lay ahead on the Oregon Trail, many young men set out eastward in search of adventure and wealth beyond anything they could imagine. Many of these explorers became martyrs or heroes during their travels; others failed miserably at this dramatic task that required strength and stamina like no other undertaking before or since. During most of his westward journey across North America (1846-1849), Ulysses S Grant passed through central Oregon several times on his way upriver to reach California overland route via wagon trains laden with supplies and passengers seeking fortune beyond compare... [Grant] not only explored all that now makescentral Oregon attractive but also exploited its natural resources which included coal (the ore being shipped downriver)and watermelons... With few exceptions those early pioneer residents who followed agricultural pursuits continued unchanged until World War II when Forest Products Laboratory scientists began measuring organic matter contentof local soils for use as manure for livestock
The town of Woodburn, Oregon was founded in 1875 by the brothers Ezra and George Cooley. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Columbia River, which made it an important hub for shipping goods and passengers. In 1916, Woodburn became a city.
