Aliquippa is a census-designated place in Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Aliquippa is located on PA Route 15 north of the town of Hazleton and east of Centre Township. The first Aliquippa post office was established in 1812 when John Holmes opened a store there. The first crop grown in what is now Aliquippa was corn (maize) in 1825. A mill built by Amos Dixon became the nucleus around which the present town developed and continues to be run by his descendants today. A gristmill on West Beaver Creek began operating in 1838 and continued until 1840 when it burned down. A new gristmill was built on North Beaver Creek about 1850 by Wm Hoggs, also known as "Crazy Dutch". Another mill operated at this location for a short time before being destroyed by fire in 1865. In 1876 James Ladd purchased land adjacent to present day Aliquippa from John Holmes for $1,000 and started homesteading development which eventually included a schoolhouse and other buildings that still stand today including the Masonic Lodge Hall which has been used as a community center since 1978. In 1915 he donated land along Beaver Creek for an Agricultural College which would later become Penn State University; however, only one building - a farm barn - ever reached completion due to lack of funding and World War I intervention (the college relocated to Wharton). In 1927 James Ladd's grandson John Cagle moved his family to Alquippa from Lancaster after purchasing some land there from his father-in-law Harry Sumnall who had founded Sumnall Paper Company hereabouts back in 1892/93 (later becoming American Paper Corporation). During World War II many people worked at American Paper Corporation's plant hereabouts including Jock Mahoney who became vice president during hostilities; he later sold his interest within America Paper Corporation and retired near here where he currently resides with his wife Diane Heineman Mahoney . After America Paper Corporation merged with DuPont munitions company Nucor plc., Jim Mahoney became Vice President & General Manager Corporate Affairs for DuPont Industries USA – Delaware Valley region where he led all aspects of corporate strategy until retirement in 1992 . After retiring from DuPont Industries USA – Delaware Valley region Jim Mahoney resumed his previous job as Vice President & General Manager Corporate Affairs for Nucor plc., but left effective October 1st 1999 after more than three decades with the company; this followed years of disappointing performance across all divisions following five successive years of overall losses totaling nearly US$2 billion! This decline led then CEO Sumner Ralston Jr.'s decision to move permanently beyond production into marketing & commercial management without any further involvement withinDuPont IndustriesUSA – Delaware Valley region ! Since leaving DuPont IndustriesUSA – Delaware Valley region Jim Mahone has served as Chairman Emeritus Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton LLP where he remains actively involved through various boards convened annually by that law firm - most recently serving as Chairperson Committee on Strategy Development during its 10th anniversary year! petroleumscience

Aliquippa is a city in and the county seat of Aliquippa County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 511 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh– Allegheny Area Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Aliquippa was Capt. John Smith in 1608. He sailed up the Susquehanna River and found a village of Potawatomi Indians on July 17, 1624, about south of present-day Aliquippa. One year later he explored this area further and discovered a riverine route between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh that led through what is now Duquesne County (then part of Pennsylvania). In 1627 Captain John Butler passed by this region on his way from Fort Pitt to Canada; he called it "Alquippa" because there were several villages along the river's banks which had been abandoned by their occupants during his journey. A few years later still another group of English traders reached what is now Aliquippa from Philadelphia via Monmouth County (now Delaware), but they did not stay long as other tribes began to move into these new territory. In 1740 Colonel George Washington founded West Point Barracks here after winning an engagement with the Shawnee chief Tammany Hall at Battle Hill near modern-day Westmoreland Township, Allegheny County. This became one of many military posts established in southwestern Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War era as British forces sought passage downriver past American fortifications protecting Lake Erie against possible attacks by French Admiral Louisbourg or General Montresor's army marching downriver from Quebec City following status quo changes signaled by King Louis XV's offer for cession of all North America west of New York Harbor to Great Britain instead of Spain treaty moved voluntarily by France aftermath discovery settlements along lower reaches including present day Aliquippa started appearing more frequently as Loyalist refugees flee British war effort with Siege mentality encouraged throughout Albany district Upper Monongahela Valley dependent upon Connecting roads siting on rich coal seams early 18th century transportation options difficult using canoes only 2 days travel upstream navigation improved when locks built 3 miles below mouth made navigation easier
Aliquippa was founded in 1795 by George Washington and James Blair. The first post office in Aliquippa opened in 1800. In 1824, the town became a borough and its first mayor was John Broughton. The population of Aliquippa increased from 3,000 to 30,000 by 1830. In 1870, the borough was annexed to the city of Pittsburgh.
