Aliquippa, Pennsylvania is a town in northcentral Pennsylvania that is the seat of Aliquippa County. The population was 7,812 at the 2000 census. It lies on the Susquehanna River and is located about halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie. Aliquippa's early history can be traced back to 1754 when British forces burned down part of what is now downtown Aliquippa in order to prevent American settlers from acquiring land. In 1814, an act was passed by Congress which allowed for Ohio-based residents to purchase land east of the Susquehanna River in what is now Aliquippa Township. The town began as a farming community with many small businesses until Steel City Incorporated opened its first store in 1892. That company became one of the largest employers in town and remains so today. The heyday of steel production ended during World War II when aluminum production picked up because of wartime demand for aluminum products. Today, Aliquippa's economy relies heavily on tourism and outdoor recreation, especially fishing and hunting; however, recent efforts have been made to revive local manufacturing by establishing partnerships with companies such as Ford Motor Company, PPG Industries and United Technologies Corporation.

Aliquippa is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first white settlers in Aliquippa were three men, George Armstrong Cram and his brothers James and Daniel Armstrong, who came to the area in 1798. They named their new land "Aliquippa" after a creek that lay near their farmhouse. In 1812, John Prentice built the first store in Aliquippa and started selling goods from his home on Main Street. In 1818, William Haines purchased land adjacent to Prentice's store from him and started trading goods from his home on Third Street. He also built a log cabin which he called Haines' House. This was the first post office in Alquippa Township. In 1800,1800 Elisha Potter established a gristmill on what is now Beaver Road east of present-day Aliquippa High School (then known as "Potter's Mill"). In 1825, John Neely donated an acre (0.40 km²) of land for religious worship purposes northwest of present-day Aliquippa High School; this became Moody Chapel churchyard today. Aliquippa Township was organized on October 16th, 1824 by Order of General Assembly No.(2). The township included all but part of what are now Butler County - it extended into Huntingdon County until it was split off form that county on February 3rd 1 836 when Huntingdon became official statehood On December 15th 1870 there was another order passed by the PA General Assembly abolishing township boundaries between Caldwell & Perry Counties creating Lawrenceburg Borough within Butler County only - this occurred because there had been numerous requests for annexation by Lawrenceburg following development within its borders including several quarries along Beaver Road running through central Alquippa . After being annexed by Butler County residents voted to keep their own government with seven members instead of incorporation into Lawrenceburg Borough . However local residents continue to refer to themselves as 'AliquIPPANS' even though they live within Lawrenceburg Borough . According to the 2010 Census, AliquIPPANs make up almost 82% of the population here!
Aliquippa was founded in 1795 by the Penn family. They first settled on a small farm in what is now Aliquippa Township. The family made their mark on the community through their businesses, including the Aliquippa Creamery and Brewery, which continues to operate today. In 1834, the township was organized and named after Aliquippa Creek.
