Baldwin is a small town in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. Baldwin is on the Lackawanna River and includes the communities of Ararat (a Census-designated place), Baldwin Park, Baldwinville, and Beattyville. The name "Baldwin" comes from either a man or a woman named Baldwincourt who lived in the area around what is now Baldwin Park in 1682. The first mention of Baldwin occurs in 1712 when John Tryon wrote about "a village on the banks of the Lackawanna". At that time there were three villages in this area: Ararat, Beattyville, and Baldwin Park. In 1871 an act was passed by Congress to make it a township. On May 10th of that year residents voted to change their Township to Township form because they felt they needed more government control over their lives and homes. On July 1st of 1892 the Township was renamed after General Ulysses S Grant who had served as President of United States during most of the American Civil War. The land for which Baldwin was named had been donated by Samuel Goudreau who also donated some land for what is now downtownBeattyville The community experienced some growth early on due to its location near major railroads and manufacturing plants that contributed to its success today. These industries have since faded but continue to be remembered locally thanks to people such as Donny Seibert who started his own business here in 1957 and remains one of the town’s biggest donors today

Baldwin was a small town in Blair County, Pennsylvania, on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Baldwin was founded by George Baldwin in 1784. The town name is derived from an early settler's description of a bend in the river where he could hide his goods while moving upstream. Baldwin was originally part of Lancaster County. In 1853, it became part of Montgomery County. It had a population of about 670 in 1850 and about 950 in 1860. Its first school was built in 1792 and its first post office was established in 1800. In 1854, it became the county seat for Blair County. In 1881, Baldwin became a borough and remained so until 1984 when it reverted to its original status as a borough. The population declined from 2000 to 2009 but has since rebounded slightly with a 2010 Census count of 712 residents living there altogether (as opposed to 668 during that time). The primary economic activity currently found within Baldwin is retail sales although some manufacturing takes place as well; however, much warehouse/distributional business also occurs hereabouts due to the riverfront location and easy access to truck traffic which makes land speculation an important economic factor for this community today. There have been efforts over recent years by local businesses and citizens alike to redevelop portions of downtown into more pedestrian-friendly precincts while still maintaining some semblance of traditional shopping striping along one side and large warehouses across the other - all without compromising downtown's key economic engine - retail sales services overall!
