In 1830, Revs Mr. Witherspoon and Drury established two schools in Bethel Park: Bethel Academy or Western School for Boys with grades 2-6 and Bethel Collegiate Institute for Girls from 7-12 years old (now known as Regency Daycare). These institutions were among first public schools established in Allegheny County during that time period; they remain operational today and are open to students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. In 1833, James Kapp donated land which included current site of Bethel Park’s downtown complex – including streetscape redevelopment now underway – along with other parcels surrounding it for development into what would become one of Allegheny County’s most vibrant neighborhoods? Kapp donated his land because he felt that “the Evangelical Christian principle should be first principles throughout our township” ? He also believed “that education should be given not only to children but also adults who can benefit thereby from civilized life”.? Bethel Park has been called "the most beautiful place in all of Allegheny County." The first settlers to Bethel Park were Presbyterian ministers who arrived from Scotland in 1821. Reverend John Fenton and his wife Eliza Jane Fenton were both born into a wealthy Scottish family and had been educated at home. They were among the first people to settle in what is now Homestead Township where they bought land that adjoined their childhood home on Lennon Road. In 1892, they donated 4 acres (1 km2) of their home property to be used as a public oasis for townspeople and farmers alike to comeand experience nature without having to leave their homes or businesses. In 1902, Reverend John Fenton passed away but his wife continued to operate the concession stand until her death in 1966; after which it was operated by their son-in-law Harry Ladd until its sale to developer Clifford Teague in 1978. At that time, Bethel Park became one of Teague's focuses with new development including a recreation center, tennis courts, A/C units, several homes units and more than 20 shops and restaurants dating back to its early years as an agricultural resort town closed off from the rest of Homestead by high wire fence intended for horseback riding only! The original farm buildings remain standing today testamenting how well this initial community plan worked out over time with many families continuing access even after developments went up around them
The town of Bethel Park was founded in 1788 by Reverend John Eliot and his wife Deborah. The first settlers were primarily farmers, but the town grew quickly due to its location near the Susquehanna River. In 1825, the Township Act of Pennsylvania was passed, which created a township within the newly formed County of Butler. Bethel Park became a part of that township and continued to grow until it became an independent municipality in 1903.
