Coatesville is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coatesville is located on the Susquehanna River and is bordered by the towns of Wilkes-Barre and Snyder to the south and east, Woodstown to the north and west, and White Sands Township to the northwest. The Susquehanna River forms its border with Snyder to the southeast. The town was first settled in 1795 by Isaac Clarke and his family from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. They named their new home "Coatesville" for General Robert Ewing's daughter who had married John Coates (1724-1802), an American Revolutionary War veteran and delegate from Chester County, Pennsylvania. In 1810, Samuel Colt arrived in Coatesville with his brothers Eliakim (1801-1868) and Lemuel (1794-1864) from Connecticut via Chambersburg. They founded what would become Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company on Market Street in 1825. The town's post office was established in 1828; it closed in 1951 because of changes in postal service regulations. In 1830, Elijah Hicks organized a Presbyterian church here that still meets today inside of historic First Baptist Church on East Market Street - one of only two churches remaining standing from when Coatesville was founded as a small community about 150 years ago In 1840s & 50s coatesville had quite some heavy black slavery trade going on due to lack of other alternative sources so many people depended upon slave trade

The park includes parts of five counties: Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, Philadelphia County and Westmoreland County. It covers 2,623 square miles (6,792 km2). The mountain peaks are 1¼ miles (1.8 km) above sea level. Winds can reach up to 100 mph (160 kph) on some days during summertime when gales force snowdrifts over the summits; temperatures average about 50 degrees F (10 degrees C). Coatesville was founded in 1784 by Captain John Coates as a trading post on the Susquehanna River near modern-day Allentown. With his help, settlers began moving into this area in large numbers around 1800. By 1815 there were more than 100 people living hereabouts. In 1828 John Coates donated land to build a Presbyterian church in Coatesville along with four other churches in Berks County including Bethlehem Steel Works and Reading Terminal Company mills which became known as "the four locks." In 1856 President James Buchanan appointed Colonel Elijah Bickford US Military Governor of West Virginia while he traveled through Pennsylvania checking out roads and villages located along streams on his way back to Washington D.C., passing through Pocono Mountain National Park where he stayed at Fort Adams near present-day Scranton PA before returning home on July 8th1856
Coatesville was a small town in western Pennsylvania, located near the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers. The area now comprising Coatesville was first settled by Europeans in the 1730s, and its early inhabitants were primarily Scots-Irish. The community received its name from Colonel James Coates, an American Revolutionary War soldier who served under General George Washington. The first store in Coatesville was established by John Hamlin in 1802. By 1830, there were six stores operating within the town limits. In 1868, sawmills and other farming businesses began to prosper as settlers moved into the area for agriculture opportunities. In 1887, a post office was erected at Coatesville; it continued to serve until 1902. At that time, most of the population of Coatesville had relocated to nearby Allentown or Doylestown due to economic reasons. However, some residents remained in the town through several more decades until it ceased to exist as a municipality on December 1, 1999. Today there is only one remaining structure from when Coatesville was a thriving community: A Baptist church which stands on a rural lot just east of Interstate 79 west of downtown Allentown.
