The history of Coatesville, Pennsylvania began with the early Dutch settlers in 1683. The area was first called "Holtenburgh" and was part of what is now Delaware County. In 1758, the British founded a post at Fort Pitt on the Monongahela River and named it for General George Washington. Over time, the post became more important and was renamed Fort Pitt in 1775 after General Washington's victory over the French at Quebec. In 1802, part of Delaware County became Pittsburgh while Allegheny County remained in Pennsylvanian hands. In 1861, when Pittsburgh seceded from Pennsylvanian control, Coatesville also seceded from Pennsylvania and become an independent city. The population of Coatesville grew rapidly during the 19th century due to both its location close to major manufacturing centers as well as its growing industry. This growth led to increased demand for police officers, who were needed to maintain order during these times of rapid settlement and industrialization. During World War II, Coatesville played a significant role in the war effort by providing housing for soldiers stationed at Camp Butler in nearby Clearfield Township. Additionally, many businesses in town donated goods or services to support military efforts such as printing presses and auto parts shortages caused by rationing experienced during wartime America. After the war, many residents moved away from Coatesville because of high costs of living or lack of job opportunities within miles of their homes. However, some residents chose to remain in town because they felt that it had changed little since they were last thereduring the war years or because they wished to continue using local resources such as water pressure drawing power from wells located near town limits

Coatesville is a small town in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. The community was founded by John Coates and his family in 1798. It was named for General Washington's father-in-law, Nathanael Coates. In 1827, the community had a population of 374; by 1870 it had decreased to 160. However, during the late 19th century and early 20th century, Coatesville experienced an increase in its population due to its location on Route 7 between Bethlehem and Pittsburgh. In 1925, Coatesville became a borough; it incorporated as a city on December 18, 1952. On January 1, 1959, it reverted to borough status. The current mayor is Darrell Bourgeois (D). Coatesville is located at (40.121857,-79.474678). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and is water. As of the census of 2010,[3] there were 2,824 people residing in the town: 1% African American or African American descent and 97% White European descent

Coatesville is a small town in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is located in the southwestern part of the county, on the southern edge of Pennsylania's Steel Belt. The first settler in Coatesville was Abraham Coates, who arrived there in 1792. The town was named for General George Washington and his family. The original store and post office were both built near where Main Street now stands. In 1824, John Atherton founded the Beaver Falls Iron Works here, which remain one ofcoastal Pennsylvania's most venerable businesses to this day. In 1865, as a result of American Civil War efforts to protect freed slaves from being recaptured by Confederate forces and Sold into slavery again, Union General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all slaveholders in Allegheny County to send their slaves overjoyed men (between 1864-1868) to Coatesville for safekeeping until their masters could be Freed or exchanged. This event is commonly referred to as "the Ghent Famine". Some black families who had been living in etc., such as those known as "The Three Musketeers", moved into what became known as "The Hill" area around milepost 9 on what is now US 11 east of town; they helped farmed until after World War II when white farmers began moving into that area also and several stores closed up because of competition from local farmers' markets (). Many descendants still live there today..

Coatesville was founded in 1751 by Captain James Coates and his wife. The first settler in the area, John Pate, arrived in 1753. In 1835, a post office was established at Coatesville with the name of "Hicksburgh." In 1868, when Pittsburgh incorporated as a city, Hicksburgh became part of Pittsburgh.
