The first target holders were created in East Stroudsburg, PA in 1927. targets were made from wood and metal, with the earliest ones being made by the local company, J.G. Stevens Shooting Company. The company was eventually bought by Barnes & Noble, and the target holders became known as Barnes & Noble Targets. In 1979, Target Corporation merged with J.G. Stevens Shooting Company to form Barnes & Noble Firearms Incorporated. The name continued to be used until 1984 when it was changed to simply Barnes & Noble Incorporated.
East Stroudsburg is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 21,811 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in Lackawanna County by population. The first people to live in what is now East Stroudsburg were the Lenape Indians. They came overland from their home in North America and established a village on the east side of the Susquehanna River about present-day East Stroudsburg. The first European settlers were Dutch farmers who arrived around 1682. By 1795, there were more than 100 Dutch families living in and around East Stroudsburg. The lands that make up present-day East Stroudsburg were part of Lancaster County before it was split wide into Pennsylvania and Ohio counties in 1802. When Pennsylvania became a state in 1801, it included all of Lancaster County except for what are now East Stroudsburg and West Allis (now Waukesha). In 1821, the eastern half of Lancaster County merged with Erie County to form a new state called Connecticut Colony – then known as Pennsylania – which included much of western Pennsylvania. In 1828, when Delaware Territory was created from parts of New York and Pennsylvania, part of Delaware was added toPennsylvania as well. This madeEast Stroudsburg one of the few towns within Delaware territory that did not become part of that state when it formed on July 1, 1829. A railroad reached East Stroudsburg by way of West Allis on December 5,1869; this gave rise to an increased demand for goods brought into and through the tiny town by railroads during the early 19th century. At first these goods were transported via wagons drawn by horseback or oxen but soon locomotives took over this service as well; today’s city buses provide similar transportation today! The history of East Stroudsburg goes back to several hundred years ago when the area that now includes East Stroudsburg was part of what is now Westmoreland County. In 1795, Quakers from Wilkes-Barre founded the first post office in Westmoreland County and named it East Stroudsburg after their home town of Stradbroke in England. The first store opened in this location on December 16, 1795. In 1825, the third post office was established in East Stroudsburg with Stephen Atherton as its first occupant. During this time, both towns were under one roof due to a lack of infrastructure at that time. The first railroad reached EastStroudsburg on October 1, 1830 and soon became an important factor in their growth as a community. This railroad allowed for more trade and commerce to occur between these two towns which led to increased development and stability over time. On November 3rd, 1834,EastStroudsburg became an incorporated town after voting by residents who had gathered at City Hall throughout the day upon hearing about plans by Township Trustees to do so via special meeting requested by Mayor John Pappas Sr.. At that time township trustees oversaw all aspects of municipal government including public works ( sewers & streets ), education ( schools & parks ), social welfare ( housing & highways ) and other related matters within their respective jurisdictions. During its early years as an incorporated town, EastStroudsburg experienced some major challenges including but not limited to being unincorporated until 1840; experiencing major fire damage during the Civil War; having its own jail closed down during prohibition; becoming Larger than any other municipality within her boundaries until 1861; hosting numerous civic meetings such as those held annually during July 4th weekend culminating with adoption of a new constitution only six months later - all while still adhering strictly to Anglican Protestantism; experiencing rapid growth following World War II when many manufacturing jobs were brought intotown from neighboring countries including Germany due to wartime production shortages overseas;and finally witnessing significant demographic changes following integration intothe larger Pennsylvanian community through various waves of suburbanization beginning around 1960 which ultimately ledtothe present day configuration where most residents are either descendants or recent immigrants from Eastern European backgrounds
East Stroudsburg was founded in 1768 by the Loyalists during the American Revolution. The town was originally named "Newtown" after King George III of Great Britain. It became a part of Pennsylvania in 1776 and was renamed "East Stroudsburg." The city is home to both the University of Pittsburgh and West Chester University.
