Where Tracey Rocks now stands were once fields that are now part of Brownstown Borough. In 1825, James Prentice built a home on what is today Middle Road located between Brownsville and Alloway Roads. The first post office inElizabethtown was established on October 1, 1827 under the name of Brownstown; it closed on September 30th, 1830 following construction of a new post office across Brownsville Road which opened November 1st, 1830 In 1839 there were only 5 residents in Elizabethtown and 2 businesses although many people thought they may have been founded before this due to lack of documentation or verification however these claims have not been substantiated yet . By 1840 there must have been more than 10 families living inElizabethtown because by then two school districts had been set up - one for Whitesburg Township (now Brownsville) and One for East Liverpool Township (now Henderson Township). These schools operated until about 1870 when both districts merged into Allegheny County School District #2 . In 1865 an express line from Pittsburgh run through Elizabethtown became known as "The Gossip Line" because numerous prostitutes traveling from central Pennsylvania worked along its length . After World War I many Polish Americans moved intoElizabethTown during this time period with some remaining until well into World War II The community experienced significant growth after World War II with increased economic development thanks to steel production being conducted nearby such as Steel Bridge & Tube Company which used Trinity Drive Boulevard as their manufacturing plant In 1957 Eastern Airlines started service out of Elizabethtown Airport making it one of Pennsylvanias' last major airports before its closure in 1995 Since then much smaller airports such as Greensburg Airport have developed within minutes's walk or less including several shopping centers and restaurants close by like Walmart Supercenter just outside town limits
