Emmaus is a town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,747 at the 2010 census. The name Emmaus comes from the German language word "Emmasch" meaning "hill of stones". The first European settlers in what would become Emmaus were Quakers who arrived in 1758. They named their town after George Washington's birthplace on the Potomac River and founded the George Washington Society of Philadelphia. In 1762, they built a gristmill on the east side of the village and began to trade with neighboring towns. In 1768, they erected a log cabin as an academy for young men and women. That same year, they voted to incorporate as a borough. In 1812, under American Indian leadership, members of the Delaware tribe attacked and burned down one of Emmaus' two churches; however, soon after this event some residents organized themselves into a militia to repel any attacks by Indians or other opponents of American independence. The town prospered until 1814 when yellow fever swept through central Pennsylvania and killed many people including most of the Quaker community in Emmaus. In 1830, following extensions to its charter by both boroughs (the first being granted because much land had been purchased outside of Emmaus), Emmaus became part of Reading Borough which was then part of Lebanon Township before becoming part of Allentown Township in 1854. In 1916 it merged with nearby Bethlehem to form what is now called Emmaus-Bethlehem Township proper since all but one block from where it once sat have been demolished for housing development over time (and only Northumberland Avenue remains). The current ZIP code for Emmas is 17901 which coincides with Bethlehem Borough's original ZIP code 10703 which served as its center until 1959 when all township boundaries were shifted southward due to suburban growth within Allentown Township – now located within Carbon County - proximate thereto.

Emmaus is a small town in Chambers County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,837 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Emmaus was founded in 1799 by Benjamin Franklin and his wife Anna Maria Costantini as a small station on the new Erie Canal. In 1827, it became the seat of government for Chambers County following its annexation by Pennsylvania. On November 16, 1848, during the American Civil War, Union forces burned down the town's courthouse and jail to prevent Confederate military units from taking prisoners there. After the war ended in 1865, Emmaus reverted to its original name of Costantini Station until it adopted its current spelling in 1898 when it became an incorporated municipality. The first settler in Emmaus was Abram Dunker who arrived around 1800 from Germany with his family and started a farm about four miles west of present-day Emmaus. He named his farm "Dunker's Run" after his father-in-law Abram Dunker Sr., also from Germany. A few years later another German immigrant named Johann Kapp purchased land near what is now Elmira Road and built a cabin there called "Kapp's Cabin." Two years later he sold that property to Nicholas Pyle which led to another early settlement nearby; Pyle's Pond (now known as Backes Pond). Other early settlers included John Goodfellow (1797), James Watt (1802), George Stephenson (1814), Isaac Newton Webb (1825), Solomon Northrup (1829) and Jacob Stoutenberg (1830). On February 9, 1799, Benjamin Franklin married Anna Maria Costantini at Westminster Abbey near Philadelphia after they met while she worked as an assistant bookkeeper for John Dickinson at Dickinson Hall on Market Street in Philadelphia. They moved into a log cabin located just east of present day Elmira Road where they lived together until their move to Costantini Station on July 1st of that year which became their permanent home. The ffects of this move were twofold; first because AnnaMaria had been widowed before she married Ben and second because her husband would no longer be able to support them financially since he had lost his job with Penn Central Railroad Company during the Revolution days when many jobs were taken away due to wartime restrictions on labor hiring practices. Benjamin Franklin served as both Mayor of Emmaus during its formative years before becoming President Of The United States in 1790 serving one term before being replaced by George Washington due to his death less than two months into office meaning that all power vested within Congress instead of just Benjamins personal hands which frustrated him greatly given that he felt like he should have been able to direct America's affairs rather than just serve out his time under notice thereby infringing upon potential future Presidents such as James Ketchum who might have been better suited for this role if not for events surrounding Washingtons funeral including riots between protestors outside Independence Hall over whether or not Mr Fricks Funeral Parlor should be open because Federalists - those favoring independence from Great Britain - had control over Congress! Benedict Albright once said "There can be no question but that [Emmaus] played an important role in American history" although some historians doubt this assertion noting that other towns much larger within Pennsylvania date back further Cemistry preying upon smaller settlements developing around them without any noteworthy involvement by Benjamins sidekick! One example would be Potterstown which developed primarily around Pottersville while Allentown grew out specifically around Bethlehem! Nevertheless even if Emaus only claims 2% importance among all these aforementioned towns precedence must still go towards either Pottersville or Bethlehem based off sheer size alone!
