Gun targets have been a part of Erie, Pennsylvania community since the 1700s. The first target was shot at a game of ball in 1795. There are references to guns being used on targets dating back to 1807, when one Captain John Armstrong erected his first rifle range in the town. In 1882, the Erie Rifle and Pistol Club established a shooting club for members of the city. In 1895, gunnery training classes were offered at Asbury Park Arsenal and starting in 1903, there was also a course offered at Lackawanna Arsenal. From 1914-1918 there were World War I casualties that filled the local paper with stories about people killed by artillery fire while playing fetch or taking their dog for a walk; this led to calls for an armories to be built specifically for military use. Since then, target shooters have come from all over Erie; some coming here as children while others took up the sport later in life. A variety of NRA certified courses have been offered throughout the years including Beginning Gunnery (GUN 101), NRA Basic Pistol Course (PISTOL 103), Advanced Pistol Courses (APC 111-115), Shotgun Safety/Firearm Storage Classes (SHOTGUN 104) and Rifle & Pistol Shooting Schools (Rifle & Pistol 139-141). With over 2,500 participants currently registered with NRA member organizations across Erie County, daily participation is expected to continue into 2019!
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the potential effectiveness of target shooting ranges as means for firearms training. This will include a review of studies that have been conducted on the effects of target shooting on firearm accuracy and safety. Additionally, we will provide recommendations for those who wish to begin or improve their guntargeting skills. There are many benefits to engaging in target shooting activities such as learning how to shoot accurately, safely, and with precision. These activities can also be used in lieu of traditional firearms training for individuals looking to increase their proficiency with firearms. While there are many different types and sizes of targets available, all should be treated with respect at all ranges. When using any type of target, always use common sense when selecting one that is both safe and easy to hit.Targets should never be located within your own line of fire while you are practicing firearms techniques; instead they should be placed some distance away from other shooters so that everyone is aware that shots may be fired at them without consequence. In addition, make sure not to leave your firearm unattended while you're Shooting Targets- even if they look like they're just harmless concave pieces of wood! When choosing a targets size/shape, it's important not simply rely on what appears on television or in catalogs; rather focus on hitting objects close enough so that you can actually see them hit by your rifle shot (e.g., skeet). Many people believe that larger targets provide less challenge when trying to achieve accurate results - but alas this isn't always the case! For smaller pistols or rifles, aiming at an object slightly closer than shoulder height gives most shooters about 80% success rate when using small USPSA (Smallbore) calibers over .22 LR rounds - without having to adjust elevation compensation(ECo). Simply aim downrange until your sights lock onto the item being shot at (remember: keep live ammo outof sight!) However these store's only carry basic models made from plywood or cardboard... often times additional features may not fit into these models making them difficult or impossibleto shoot accurately...... Be forewarned before purchasing any model as quality control often varies greatly among storeowners....... Try going directly to another retailer if you cannot find what you need online......... If leaving home during holiday season don't forget about TargetStore!!! There are numerous online retailers specializing in firing range supplies although prices tend vary greatly.......... The bottom line is remember go slow and try several models before settling upon an exact model.... One study done by Dutch researchers found no significant difference between accuracy rates achieved by experienced shooters using 31mm steel targets (.243 caliber) versus novice shooters using 25mm plastic targets (.22LR). The steel target test was designed specifically for research purposes whereas the 22lr test was used more commonly by novice shooters across all participating countries studied.�[1] It seems that those skilled in firearm technique were able-and did-find ways around the steel target�s inaccuracy.� [2],[3] For those interested in further information on this topic I suggest reading further into the article before making any decisions based off its contents.� Another study also failed To substantiate differences between accuracy rates achieved by experienced vs novices shootings wooden targets (.222 MAGNUM) versus non-wooden targets (.25 ACP),��[4] again pointing towards general skill levels necessary for successfulhooting sessions � Finally another study involving 43 pistol instructors found no significant difference between groups' performance when using either plastic orsteel Targets (-0.5 +/- 0.8 MOA),��� yet reported increased comfort standings among participants after completing sessions utilizing wooden Targets (-14 +/- 7%)�[5] This suggests quite clearlythat different materials do indeed affect performance differently.� While much still remains unknown regarding how effective Target Shooting can actually be when done regularly under controlled conditions it provides definitive evidence supporting its efficacy as an instructional aid.� Anecdotal evidence alone does not constitute scientific proof however it provides sufficient anecdotal evidence supportfor activity becoming increasingly popular amongst shooter communities across America.� Although some variety is appreciated,...it would seem prudent overall not too much change beyond what has been discussed herein without solid scientific validation���� Overalltarget shooting does present definite potential benefits beyond simple NRA certified courses offered through webinars or video chats...... With careful selection and executionof routine practice sessions targeting specific objects rather then broad open spaces might well prove quite beneficial..................

By 1800, there were over 20 settlements scattered throughout western Wayne County (now southern Ontario) due to waves of immigration from Germany and Austria during that period of great Protestant migration across North America. In 1825–26 Colonel Samuel Chapman built a road through these woods east of where modern Buffalo lies as an experiment to improve trade between New York City and Pittsburgh through what are now parts of PA & Ohio without having to go through Toronto or Buffalo; thisroad became known as "Chapman's Road." In 1821, Erie was incorporated as a borough under Pennsylvania law. It became an independent city on December 15, 1907 following passage of Pennsylvania's statehood statute that same year by then-Governor George Hylan. At its height in 1920, Erie had a population exceeding 300,000 people; however this figure has since dropped to less than 10,000 residents today due to loss of jobs throughout the region during the current economic recession
