Franklin Park is a large city in the United States. It is located in Philadelphia County, south of Center City and west of the University of Pennsylvania campus. The population was 621,836 as of the 2010 census. Franklin Park encompasses an area of 9 square miles (23 km²). The park was first established in 1875 by businessman John Fenton as part of his plans to create a public garden and recreation area on land he had purchased from the trustees of the now-defunct Huntingdon Female Seminary. The park became known for its beautiful trees, well-manicured gardens, and elegant architecture, including Old Path House, built in 1881 by architect Rufus Wistar. In 1896, American president Grover Cleveland dedicated Franklin Park's first golf course which today remains one of the most popular courses in Philadelphia. Some notable people attending this dedication ceremony included: Vice President Chester Aarons Secretary Of State Asa Hutchinson Postmaster General Winthrop Aldrich It wasn't long before problems arose within the park boundary due to development rates along I-70 Andrus Avenue east thereof which paralleled home values; traffic congestion caused by these developments became increasingly intolerable until finally management called off development plans resulting in improved conditions inside & outside Franklin Park throughout most recent decade!
