In 1814, when the township became part of Berks County, Farnham Township was renamed Greensburg Borough. The borough seat moved to Poyntzville in 1906. The first settler in Greensburg was John Green who arrived there from Northampton, Massachusetts in 1784 with his family. Green's farmstead is still standing and can be visited today. He had two daughters and one son who all married into other families before he died in 1817 at the age of 86 years old. His wife Esther moved to Philadelphia with their children after he passed away; she later remarried to Samuel Fenton and continued living there until her death in 1893. One of John Green's daughters married Colonel George Washington McClellan (1802-1881), an American general during the American Civil War (1861- 1865). General McClellan's daughter also resided in Greensburg for many years before moving to Illinois where she raised chickens and served as president of Sturgis College from 1897-1901.
