Johnstown, Pennsylvania was a small town located in the southern part of the United States that experienced one of the most tragic gun chokes in its history. On December 14, 1868, thirteen-year old Johnnie Ray died after being shot by his father with a six-gun. The tragedy began when Andrew McNaught, an entrepreneur and local farmer, decided to buy some shotguns from McNaught's friend and neighbor, John Ray Jr. McNaught had no idea that his son would be killed so tragically just three months later. The shooting led to increased law enforcement activity in the town as well as heightened public awareness of firearms safety. In response to the Johnnie Ray tragedy, Johnstown City Council passed an ordinance regulating handgun ownership and circulation within the town limits. This ordinance became known as the "Johnnie Ray Gun law." Since then, other similar shootings have resulted in fatalities in towns throughout America. These tragedies are preventable if we can keep our communities safe by passing laws regulating handguns and keeping them out of reach for those who shouldn't have them. The earliest mention I could findof any problems with this project came in February 1969 when residents voiced concerns about possible flooding due to heavy rains events upstream; however such fears turned out not to be realized! Despite some challenges along the way (such as numerous floods), The Johnny Appleseed Gang continued trading throughout much Of America until their final demise in 1971!
