Lansdowne is a town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. Lansdowne is part of the Allentown–Bethlehem–Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in the center of Lehigh County and on the border of Bethlehem Township and Nanticoke Township. The first settlers in Lansdowne were Andrew Mellon and his family who arrived in 1785 from Scotland. Andrew Mellon was a senator from Kentucky and Treasury Secretary under President Washington during the American Revolution. The Mellon family became rich through their involvement with British imperialism. In 1834, John Darnielle bought 1/4 acre (0.21 km²) of land at what is now Lansdowne for $100 cash from Andrew Mellon's son-in-law James Kappes. Darnielle named his land "Darnie Hill" after his own father-in-law, David Darnielle Sr., an early settler in Lansdowne area who had founded two other townships: Northampton Township (now Centre City) and Downingtown Township (now Westmoreland Borough). In 1837, Isaac Basile purchase 2 acres (0.80 km²) of land to the north of where Darnielle's farm now stands for $50 cash from John Kappes' brother Samuel Kappes also an early settler in Lansdowne area. Basile renamed his tract "Basile's Hill". By 1838, all three farmers had purchased additional tracts within present day Lansdownske township which would form its nucleus today -Andrew Mellon donated 2/3 acre (1 kilometer²), Isaac Basile donated 1/3 acre (1 kilometer²), James Kappes donated 1/2 acre (.50 km²), while Samuel Kappe gifted one half acre (.25 km²). By 1840 there were 5 families living in what are now Lansdownske township - Basile'sHill; Adamson; Alvord; Baggaley; Bigham - all but one being family farmssteads that operated until 1862 when centralization of agriculture led to abandonment by many farmers across Lehigh County due to high cost of production coupled with competition from neighboring counties caused by growing industrial cities like Philadelphia and Baltimore which had become much more populous since 1800s when Lancasterburgh was first settled as a result of trade between English colonists and Native Americans near Susquehanna River valley leading to new settlements thereafter including Lansdowne

Lansdowne is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Lansdowne was founded in 1768 by Nicholas Lansdowne and his wife Esther. It is named for Anthony Lansdowne, a British general who fought in the American Revolution. The first settler in Lansdowne was Nicholas Lansdowne. He came to the area from Englewood, New Jersey with his family in 1768. In 1770 he built a tavern on the present-day site of what is now Lansdowne High School. The village started off as a farming community and had six stores and one blacksmith shop when it became known as "Lansdale". In 1814 Anthony Lambert purchased the land that makes up today's part of Lansdowne Township from Nicholas Lansdowne and set about building what would become Lambert's estate on it. By 1826 there were only three houses left standing in the original town square - all of which have been demolished since then! In 1881 John Fenton opened an hotel called Empire State House which served as the nucleus for later businesses such as J Fenton's Department Store (now Macy's) and Fordham Hotel (now Marriott). A post office was established at Lansdale in 1892, but closed within two years due to lack of mail service. A fire destroyed most of Lambert's estate on October 7, 1901; however, parts of it were rebuilt including what is now Upper Darby High School. After World War II many businesses moved out or went out of business due to competition from larger towns; however, Empire State House still operates today as a restaurant/bar/. Lambert Avenue was named after him in 1951 and remains so to this day; he also donated land for Lower Darby High School which stands today on his former estate just east of Upper Darby Township line
