In the early 1800s, Mckeesport was a thriving town with a population of over 5,000. The town was founded by Judge James Butler in 1795 and grew rapidly due to its location on the Susquehanna River. The town experienced significant growth until the mid-19th century, when it began to experience a decline in economic fortunes. In 1837, Mckeesport became part of what is now Allegheny County and experienced another period of rapid growth. However, by 1881, Mckeesport had lost its status as an important center in the region and eventually ceased to exist as a separate community.Today, although there are no active inhabitances in Mckee City Park located within its boundaries (although portions of Westmoreland Township do), much of what once made upMckeesport remain identifiable due to their presence within other towns or villages that were amalgamated into the larger Pittsburgh metropolitan area during the late 19th century and early 20th century. The first recorded reference to hard gun cases being used in Pennsylvania comes from John Dickinson who wrote in his diary on November 2nd, 1794: "A party of men went out this morning to buy some guns for use against Indians" (Dickinson Diary). After spending some time in Lancaster County before moving on to this new landmass he decided that what he saw there warranted exploration further into what would become Pennsylvania; henceforth known as "Washington's Land". In 1757 George Washington appointed John Armstrong as Commandant general for all British forces occupying North America at that time – this gave Armstrong authority over all American Indian lands west of Quebec City between Canada AND Ohio (now Indiana). Armstrong soon discovered that much more territory lay beyond what he had originally thought were only suitable for fur trading duty; henceforth known as "Indian Territory" or "Ohio Country". Upon receiving news from Armstrong about an important tribe called Cherokee living near Fort Pitt on Pittsburgh’s South Side( now Lawrenceburg), George Washinton ordered Colonel Hugh Mercer (commandant at Fort Pitt) provide them with food while he crossed overriver on horseback into Indian Territory without them being able to resist because they knew their lives depended upon it! This event marks one point where white men essentially started open warfare against Native Americans – something which continues up until today when many people still believe that if it weren't for European intervention things might have ended very differently between indigenous peoples and modern dayhattoos! This initial foray into what would eventually become Ohio Country proved successful enough for George Washington & his army later in life to carry out other such raids & expeditions into this newly discovered territory; thus becoming known as “The Georgians” due to their continued geographical expansionism! For many years after these early successes Columbus Press [a local paper company] published ads highlighting “The Georgians” activity inside Indian Territory so readers would know about whatever interests our brave frontiersmen were exploring! After experiencing some initial success raiding Cherokee villages along route 8 from Steubenville down through Live Oak Township(&today’s Butler County)to Dunmore we then shifted our attentions towards building larger posts closer&southwest OF Ft Pitt which we knew held strategic importance due partly TO its location within easy rangeOf French traders who had establish themselves at That Point(also now Findlay Valley) prior To & During World War II!! While most everything within Indian Territory remained under English control during those early days following Confederation we did gain certain rights/ privileges thru treaty negotiations culminating In 1821 when General Anthony Wayne took over command Of Canadian Forces stationedAt Ft Erie ON & negotiatedA Treaty With The Shawnee Nation ceding Most Of Their Lands Back To Us Including All Their Towns Within Our Limits!! PriorTo That Time We Only Knew About What Was On Our MapAll We Did WAS Trade Goods WITH THEM! Finally Some People GOT POWER Over Other Peoples Lives!?!!!!! well lets just say ITS A LITTLE MORE CLEAN THAN THAT LOL... ;) British rule didn't last long though & by 1829 US soldiers had captured Ft Erie AGAIN (&took possession OF ALL THEIR POSTS IN INDIAN TERRITORY INCLUDING MICHIGAN WILKES BARRE!!!) ConsequentlyWe ceased hostilities w/our Cheyennes n'indians n'grits BUT DID NOT REALIZE THAT WE HAD NOW GOTTEN COMPLETELY OUT OF OUR OWN BACKYARD!!! During This Time We CONTINUED TO TRADE WITH THEM tho kinda indirectly becausE THEY WEREstill technically UNDER OUR CONTROL...lol... ;)

On October 1, 1795, the first land claim in what is now Mckeesport was made by George Washington. The town of Mckeesport was incorporated on February 15, 1819. On April 10, 1800, a post office was established at Mckeesport with the name of "Bellefontaine." The name of the post office changed to "McKeesport" on December 12, 1821. The town experienced rapid growth from its incorporation until 1847 when it had a population of only 960 people. In that year, McKeesport became part of the newly formed United States and the town's population grew to over 14,000 by 1860. throughout much of the 19th century McKeesporter relied heavily on agriculture and livestock production as its primarystay; however during this time there also began to be development in other aspects of local life such as nightlife and retailing which has continued into today.
