Mckeesport is a small town in Mckeesport Township, Buchanan County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 511 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The Mckeesport Iron and Steel Company was founded in 1892 by Abram S. Ziegler and his brother Julius Ziegler. The company made steel pipe and other products from this raw material until it merged with Bethlehem Steel in 1986. In 1984, the company opened a plant to make locomotives for the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR). The PRR retired its last steam locomotive in 1997 and all of its electric locomotives were retired by 2002. As production of railroad-related infrastructure declined during the 2000s, Mckee'sport attracted attention as an attractive location for modern manufacturing due to its proximity to major highways and rail lines. In 2013, US Steel announced that it would be moving its Research & Development Center from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to nearby Mount Lebanon after years of discussion about relocating it there following aluminum prices declining precipitously due to overproduction at mills in China. At US Steel's request, McKeesport trustees voted not to oppose this move because "the community has been supportive of their efforts" since 2007 when they first proposed site selection hearings for what would become R&D operations for US Steel there; a later vote approved plans for construction on land currently used by Eastonleton Township School District #2 adjacent to US Steel's former blast furnace site on West Side Highway (now Lackawanna Avenue) –– one half mile east of present day McKeesport High School –– making McKeesports largest employer after school programs run by Manor Union High School District #4 which now houses the citys two large high schools (Eastonleton Middle School & Northside Preparatory Academy), four middle schools (including McKee’sport Jr./Sr., South Side Elementary/Middle Schools, West Side Intermediate/High Schools), two libraries (Mckee’sport-Mount Lebanon Public Library & Eastonleton Township Municipal Library), as well as various businesses including a restaurant and several convenience stores/grocery stores within 1 mile radius of both schools along with more than 50 single family homes built around R&D facilities totaling more than 2 million sq ft across nine hectares or less than 1 square block In September 2016 Bethlehem Consolidated Indiana Copper Corporation announced that it had purchased all assets - including properties surrounding research & development center - from USSteel leaving them without any job or business prospects

After the war ended, many local businesses went out of business and unemployment reached high levels. However, through aggressive marketing and public investment programs that focused on job training and new economic opportunities emerged asMckee-sport regained stability and began to prosper again during the late 20th century into the 21st century
Mckeesport is a borough in McKeansport, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. The borough was established on November 2, 1881, through an act of the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
