Murrysville is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. The population was 5,697 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The name Murphy'sville comes from George Murphy who settled here around 1800. George Murphy was a captain in the Continental Army and fought at Saratoga and Yorktown. His son John also served in the army and became a successful miller. In 1824, John's son James bought 4 acres (1 km²) of land east of town for $4 per acre (0.2 ha). James built the first gristmill in Murrysville and named it after his father-in-law, General William Irvine of Canada. The mill ran until 1862 when it closed due to competition from new mills built by Andrew Mellon and others in nearby Glassport and Monroeville. In 1865, Isaac Murphy established a flouring business on Main Street that continued until 1977 when it merged with Keystone Corrugated Mill to form Keystone Flour Mills Incorporated. That company produced corn flour until 1984 when it merged with Bemis Corporation to form Pennacoal Flour Mills Incorporated which continues to produce corn flour today as Keystone Corn Flour Mills Incorporated Murrysville has two schools: St Joseph's Catholic School & First Presbyterian Church School both operated by Friends International School District No. 91420 which serves students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade along with slight supplements for fifth through eighth graders Murrysville had one post office before its incorporation into borough status on November 6, 1892; Murrysville Borough was renamed Butler County on November 30th following an act of Congress approved by President Grover Cleveland According to the 2000 census there were 4,671 people living in Murrysville Township including 3,912 households out of which 1,869 (59%) were families earning an annual income over $75,000 while 753 businesses located within township boundaries contributed an economic output valued at $474 million making village/township government services - such as police and fire protection - essential services enjoyed by all residents . On April 15th 2006 referendum results demonstrated that majority citizens support reincorporation into borough status as they desire having their own elected leaders who can create policies based upon community needs rather than being answerable only to county commissioners

At its peak,murrysville had over 1,000 residents and boasted a library, theater, and several banks. But the fortunes of the town began to decline after the American Revolution. By 1825, only 100 people lived in murrysville; most of its businesses had closed or moved away. Despite this decline,Murrysville continued to be an important center for industry until the late 19th century. In 1881, a group of businessmen led by J.P. Morgan established what would become one of Philadelphia's largest companies-Morgan Guaranty Trust Company-andMurraysville became an important stop on their business routes. By 1925, murraysville had disappeared as an industrial center and only remain as an agricultural community with a few small businesses still operating today
Murrysville was founded in 1755 by John Murrys and his wife Rebecca. It became a borough in 1867 and then a city in 1903. In 1946, it became the seat of Allegheny County.
