The Nanticoke Gun Case Company was founded in 1892 by J.W. Fenton and his brothers, Samuel and John. The company made colorful soft gun cases for the shooting sports. In 1922, the company changed its name to The Nanticoke Armory Company. In 1941, the armory became part of the newly created PNC Bank Corporation and it continued to make soft gun cases until 1985 when it closed its doors.

Nanticoke is a town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reading–Carlisle–Lebanon Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Nanticoke were French traders and missionaries in 1699. The first permanent settler in the area was Jacob Hentzner, who arrived around 1710. He named his location after the Dutch trading post at Nieuwenhuis on the Delaware River. By 1715, there were 9 settlers living in what is now Nanticoke Township and 2 men employed by Hentzner as surveyors. In 1717, John Armstrong moved from Lancaster County to provide some land for a white mill he had started near present-day Kemptville. He also built a log bridge across the Susquehanna River which still stands today known as Armstrong's Bridge. In 1751, Samuel Wistar erected a gristmill on the banks of the Susquehanna River and began to process lumber from nearby trees into boards and crates for shipment to Philadelphia (then called Westphalia). Nanticoke Township was organized on February 14th of 1809 under Order No 10 of that year from sections one through four inclusive of section five off Township Line two eastward along said township line three hundred fifty nine feet thence up said line one thousand nine hundred forty six feet due East thereof to an bounds setters thereto by George Fenton Esquire with full power vested therein And Deed Entered this twenty ninth day of February A D C 1809 . The first store opening in Nanticoke was operated by Isaac Browning on Main Street between SR 520 and SR 622 in 1825/26; it closed about 1830 when Browning sold his business to Elisha Grundy Jr.. There were several other stores before 1800 including: Elijah Weir’s Store (1824), James Pritchard’s Store (1827), Andrew Davidson’s Store (1829), Solomon Gildersleeve’s Tavern (1830) and Ebenezer Goode’s Store (1831). In 1830, James Tilton opened a store on High Street between US 422nd Street and US 463rd Street which continued until 1840 when it burned down; Tilton later reopened as an agricultural store. On December 8th 1842 local resident Amos Gibbs opened up shop at 521 Main Street which continues until present day as Amish Market Place.. In 1850/51 Adam Janklow opened another store at 523 MainStreet which continued until 1865 when it burned down.; Janklow later reopened as an insurance agent.. In 1861/62 local resident William Muhlenberg added a blacksmith shop onto his home lot at 601 Main Street where he still operates today known as Blacksmith Shop Muhlenberg; Muhlenberg later became owner or operator of several businesses including: Lumber Merchants National Bank Building - 603 Main St - 1911-present; First State Bank - 610 Main St - 1915-present; Masonic Lodge #2 – 608MainSt – 1916-present; Second State Bank building – 620 Main St – 1916-present;; Moses Bagley Hardware & Loan Company – 625MainSt – 1930-. Many businesses have since been additions or replaced but most notably Amish Market Place has continued unchanged since its original construction dating back to 1849/. As early as 1850/51 Adam Janklow had started selling farm goods such as hay, oats, potatoes etc., through his door directly to farmers throughout Berks County while also serving customers out door under covered wagon handles called “carts” This system continued until 1865 when marketplace operations were discontinued because there wasn't enough space inside the new buildingI n 1870 Nicholas Weiser established himself as a tannery located behind his house number 516 Main street next door to Amos Gibbs store where he operated until 1893When Nicholas Weiser died suddenly during World War I aged eighty years old His son Orson Weiser took over operations running Tannery #521Majestic Avenue till 1943when Tannery #521 became known simplyas "Amish Market Place". From 1913 thru 1945 there resided within walking distance of Amish Market Place 3 banks mentioned above plus many other small shops belonging thereto viz.: tailor shops & dry goods general merchandise Mercantile Coopers Grocery Stores Tobacco Houses

Nanticoke is a small town located in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The Town of Nanticoke was chartered on December 6, 1768. The first post office was established at the village of Nanticoke on April 3, 1810. On October 16, 1821, the name of the town was changed from Nanticoke to Chadds Ford in honor of General John Chadds Ford who served as Major General and Commander-in-Chief in the American Revolution. The first settler in what is now Nanticoke Township was Isaac Dunham who arrived there in 1768 with his family. He built a cabin near where he currently resides and named it "Duncan's Ferry". In 1772 Isaac Dunham married Susannah (Cranberry) Van Weyden and they moved to what is now Delaware Township where they had six children: five daughters and one son. One daughter died young while living with her parents; Susannah remarried and continued to live there until her death in 1839. Their last child Samuel Morse Dunham born January 25th, 1800 lived most of his life at Duncan's Ferry before moving to Buffalo Grove about 1840 when he became president of the Erie Railroad Company. Their youngest daughter Sarah Auld Rodham also lived there for some time before moving away when she met George Washington Carver They also had two grandsons: Harmon Krantz (1864-1948) who became an advertising executive and Julius Rudolph Carver (1892-1983), an educator who served as superintendent for Westwind School District No. 2 in Philadelphia from 1951-1960 He married Hilda Mae Jaffe (1902-1996) on September 26th 1955 at Holy Cross Church east side of Pittsburgh PA In 1824 four brothers by the name of Ewing settled near what is now Schuylkill County PA along the Monongahela River which then included current day Butler County - all but one brother died within three years including one Sam Ewing after leaving home at only 21 years old due to yellow fever contracted while working on a plantation near present day Lancaster,PA .Families like these were instrumental early pioneers that helped make this area what it is today by starting businesses such as sawmills, tanneries & woolen mills etc...Samuel Morse Dunham started his own business importing books from England which later became known as NSD Publishers He also founded Nanticoke Academy which still operates today providing education opportunities for local students On November 4th 1830 during Andrew Jackson's presidency various treaties were ratified setting up boundaries between Canada & America creating lands west of the Allegheny Mountains including present day Pennsylvania This event led to extensive land speculation among wealthy Americans contributing significantly to development in this region over subsequent centuries
