In 1795, Nicholas potting purchased land south of what is now downtown Pottsville from John Armstrong for $675 and moved his family to live there permanently. soon after he started trading goods with settlers in nearby Altoona and Shamokin before moving upriver himself to start a new Urizena village on Beaver Creek which he named "Pottersville". Over time many other families joined him there including those of Jonas Sanger (1781-1854), George Washington Smith (1800-1864) and John Horsfall (1783-1867). Eventually most of this original Urizena community also relocated to what is now downtown Pottsville when their own homes were destroyed during American Revolutionary War bombardment or when they were forced to move because their villages were threatened by British forces marching through their territory. In 1868, following the creation of York County,pottsville became its county seat with both Harrisburg and Altoona becoming separate counties - something that had been desired by residents for some time since neighboring Lehigh County's status as county seat had led to frequent gridlock on Pennsylvania's main highway system during busy times such as fall fairs or state coroners' court proceedings. At first only male landowners could vote but eventually all citizens were allowed voting once they paid property taxes levied on them by local governments within their respective counties - something that helped stimulate economic development around town during these years while still providing social services such as education, welfare and fire protection not available statewide or even locally at this point. The first guns with hammer-action mechanisms were built in the 16th century by mechanically minded European gunsmiths. The development of printing presses made it easier to produce large quantities of prints which needed to be nailed together as articles for sale, so hammer-action pistols became more common. In England, pistolsmiths began producing Hammerless Arms around 1740 which allowed them to make better use of their hammer action without having to fit a hammer onto the pistol grip. This improved handling and accuracy while permitting pistols with hammers on both hands to be operated with greater ease than before. By 1820 most English Pistol smiths had developed their own techniques for forging alloys using an alloy forge rather than using a forge at one location run by another smithy; this gave rise to what is now known as Hammerless Arsenal technique. Hammerless Arsenal pistols continued becoming more popular until around 1840 when they were replaced by Firearm Hombergage Pistols which featured a recoil spring system that allowed the gunner to cock the barrel quickly andfire multiple rounds without needing to re-aim
